Trunk latch does not work

Just picked up another Evo 8, and the previous owner disabled the trunk latch (pull handle by the driver's seat) for some reason and I can't figure out how to reconnect it.

I've searched and came up with only how to disable it but not enable it back. The tension/torsion bars seem to still be in place. Thanks in advance.

Would it help you if I took a pic of how the cable attaches to the latch (inside the trunk)?

Let me know, & Ill take a pic tonight

That would be a ton of help, thanks for offering to do that!

I took a look at everything again and nothing seems to be out of place

Figured it out, there is a little metal ball thing connected to the spring that is supposed to hook on the small hinge near the lock, it was disconnected prior:

For anyone wondering in the future

@thepoint4life23 If youre referring to that convoluted plastic bushing, you can remove with a finger.

Ive changed my trunk more than a few times & so far that part has lived through it. Just be careful & try & wiggle it out straight w/out prying on it too much

So, even by using the key or the interior latch switch the trunk wont open? Can you gain access to the trunk through the rear seat & somehow pull on the safely release T-handle?

I feel your pain. I broke my engine hood latch cable one time & really had to work hard to get the latch removed
