Speakers randomly stopped working
Speakers randomly stopped working
04 SSL Evo, I have a Clarion head unit with the MITAH adapter for the stock amp. Thought the amp crapped out, replaced it, still no sound from speakers. Headunit is working fine, just no sound or white noise or anything from any speaker. Any ideas?
Ok, so if you have access to a multimeter, you can test the RCA jacks to see if you're outputting signal.
Disconnect all RCAs
Select an audio source, FM or CD works great for this, and turn up to 3/4 volume.
Set Multimeter to measure AC current, put 1 probe into the center of the RCA jack, and the other probe on the outer ring of the RCA jack.
IF signal is being output through the RCA jack, you will see the AC voltage on the meter fluctuate. Voltage level should go up and down with volume.
Test all RCA jacks like this, and if all pass, then the radio is good and signal is being outputted appropriately.
The next thing to look at is the adaptor harness. Identify which wires carry audio signal from the harness to the amp and test those the same way as the RCA jacks. 1 probe in the + signal wire and 1 probe in the - signal wire. (Make sure you're testing the same channel + & - or it wont work).
You can also test for audio signal after the amp or at the speakers using the same method.
Find out where the audio signal stops, and that is most likely your problem.

But also a friend of mine had a similar issue with a VW Passat. I found a wire pinout in a harness that was loose. I pushed it in, put a droplet of 5 epoxy and it worked.
happy hunting!
