Which cams?

I'm going to be heading down the upgrade path pretty soon here and I intend to go with Vishnu stage 1+. I've read about the 264/272 and 272/272 cams, who has had the best luck with either setup? This will be a daily driven car, with only the stage upgrades I mentioned.

Thanks,
Sam

It depends on your goals and if you care about the idle. Obviously cams will giveyou a loppy idle. The 264,272 is a nice setup with no idle issues. The 272/272 will give you idle issues. If you run an AEM, the rough idle on the latter will be non existent. IMO you can't go wrong with the 264,272 setup.

264/264 if your sticking with stock turbo
272/272 if your going to upgrade to a bigger turbo/stand alone

Yeah, I don't want too lopey of an idle. The wife does drive the car with regularity and loves it now, had has hated nearly every other car I've owned after I started modding. I want this one to retain the stock driveability while still being more potent. I know that with the 272/272 I'll get better top end, but I also want better than stock low end, so is it merely subjective that you "lose" low end with that arrangement? Also, isn't the AEM setup very pricey? I already own the XEDE so I'm kinda gonna have to stick with it.

I disagree The 272/264 set up is the way to go. The EVO intake is very lacking the more fuel and air you can get into the head the better. This is just my 2 cents from flowbench testing.

The intake of the motor flows more air than the exhaust in its stock form, the intake cam has a higher lift than the exhaust already, in stock form as well. Not to dis the setup but on a flowbench test the intake flows more air than the exhaust side already, from the data I have seen anyways. Any combo is good though don't get me wrong with the 272/264 you do get blasting low/mid and the 264/272 you get good mid/top where 272s more topend.

Typically, the exhaust side needs to flow only ~75% of the intake side at equal valve lift to get equal flow in a real world situation. Why? Because the heated exhaust gases exit more effectively.

Now, the HKS 272 set does give a slightly choppy idle - if the cams are set up on the same lobe centers. However, with adjustable gears, one can easily set the timing to get a stock-smooth idle and even more top end power, with a slight sacrifice of turbo spool time ~250rpm.

had my Pipers (Rally, 265 dur, 11.5 lift) for about 8000 miles now. Basically have the same setup as Vishnu's Stage 1+, but for the cams....i use the XEDE and am using their Stage 1+ 91 octane map (downloaded off of their website)....cam gears set at "0"....working great so far....power delivery is smooth and "fat" ALL THE WAY TO REDLINE.....will probably go for a custome-tune soon (heard that Shiv's been busy lately) for possibly even better performance.

no sides here...simply sharing my experience with Piper cams, Xede, and Stage 1+

Does Works have a map I can use in my XEDE with these cams? Like I said from the outset, I intend to go with what I know will work with the XEDE as I already own it. What have others said about the 269/269 combo?

I doubt it, but if Works gives you the lift and duration at 1mm lift (not advertised duration), you could use the data to determine which of the two popular HKS sets the specs mostly resemble, and download the corresponding HKS-oriented map from Vishnu. It should be close, and you'd want to dyno tune at some point anyway, even if you had the HKS cams.
