Octane boosters good?

I'll PM you when I get it.

I used the stp brand but felt like it was wasting my money.
Where do you get Torco? I don't care about the cat, since I don't have one. lol.
Long as it doesn't blow my engine up or leave it gunky.

I get 5 gallon cans of Toluene from the Chevron petrochemical company called TARR here in Portland. It's $30/can, so $6/gal. You spent $8 for your "NOS" octane booster.
So, let's do a comparison, starting with a mix of each booster with 92 octane premium:
NOS "off road formula" claims gains anywhere from 4-7 octane "points". So, the BEST you could expect (which is probably not what you really get, especially when mixing with premium fuel) would be 92.7 octane.
Now, spending that same money on Toluene, which is 114 octane, you would get 1.33 gallons of Toluene. Your tank holds 14 gallons total.
So, ((92octane * 12.66gal) + (114octane * 1.33gal) / 14gal ) = 94.00 octane. If we were to rate it by the "octane point" system, you would get about 20 octane points increase, compared to the maximum 7 octane points of the "NOS" booster. Toluene would be more than twice as effective at the same price, and wouldn't have lead substitute in it.

Another option is Xylene instead of toluene. xylene is alittle cheaper where I get it and has an octane rating of 117 instead of 114 for toluene. both are simply hydrocarbons. Toluene is added by the gas companies to increase the octane of the fuel we buy at the pump

You will also need to following things before you start making cocktails if you don't have em already:
1) Rubber gloves ($2 at Walmart)
2) Funnel ($1 at Walmart)
3) 1 gal plastic gas can ($2 at Walmart)
No, i don't wotk for Walmart
Handle this stuff w/ respect. It (like gasoline) is a poison, is flammable, etc. Avoid skin contact (gloves), avoid inhallation (do it outside or in a well ventilated garage), and avid spilling on your car (it is a paint thinner afterall). You clear coat will save you a couple of times but after a while your paint will fade, etc.. Just make sure that the cap on your gas can is fastened tightly..

There's been a lot of people on here that have used octane "boosters" and had some pretty nasty results. O2 sensors screwing up, cat-converters dying, even fuel injectors getting clogged.
I have been at 2 Mitsu dealerships getting my car serviced when, at each one, there was another Evo in at the same time. #1 was in Mobile, AL and the car had clogged fuel injectors. They said it was from running octane boosters that contained MMT. #2 was in Virginia Beach, VA and they said the O2 sensor was gone because of octane boosters that contain MMT. Lots of others on these boards have complained about them. I won't touch the stuff. I never have used them because I think they are a stupid idea, personally. It's almost like that "engine rebuild in a can" stuff they sell.
Be careful of the things they sell like that. It might say that it is safe for cat-converters, O2 sensors, and all that. But I'm sure they're really not that worried about people taking them to court over it. Even if they did, I'm sure they would say that you just overconcentrated it or something. Have fun and don't screw over your motor with this garbage. Stick with something that is proven to work and a lot safer, like Toluene.
