I have no dyno experience with Tomei cams, and thus no delta for comparison. Sorry about that!

Basically, when you retard cam timing, you're moving the torque curve over a bit to the right. A bonus side effect of these cam gears is that they make the car more resistant to knock in the higher rpm band as well.

Since horsepower is a function of torque and RPM, it is pretty obvious that sustaining more torque at higher RPM will produce exponentially more horsepower! If there are any doubters of Evo cam gears making power, I can easily produce a fist full of dyno sheets from independent shops that prove their worth.
Looks like I should get myself a set. How hard are they to install/tune yourself?

There are cars running 11s on the stock airbox and filter. Contrary to what you may have heard, you may actually lose power by changing it.

Thats awsome running 11's w/ stock AB! Installing an intake like the hks rs properly tuned with cams and a tb exhaust I doubt you would lose hp, not arguing but i've seen so many intakes make hp. just need to be tuned with the particular setup!

Getting cam gears instead of cams sounds interesting. But won't that affect emissions, since you are playing with the timing? I was thinking of just dropping in the 264's with stock timing.

so what is the best set-up for me. So many people say diffrent things. With my mods below ive been told the 264/272 is what i need and cam gears. Or should i go 264/264 or 272/272 im confused also. And with the messed up idle...ITs my everday car i dont want it to run ruff. Is there any way to make it idle right w/o a flash? And what Brand names are good i kno hks but is there anything cheaper but good quality?

264s were good enough for me to make 293hp on 91 octane and 315 on 100. btw this was on Vishnu's dyno.

I installed the Vishnu cam gears with the stock cams and had very little if any noticeable gains. From some of the information I have uncovered it sounded to me like cam gears were worth 7-10 hp. Definitely interested to see how you can get 30+ whp out of cam gears.

My Vishnu stg 1 set up trapped 12.4 sec at 112mph(that's w/o cams). Since the addition of my 272s the car feel substantially faster. It hits hard at 4000rpm all the way to redline (1000rpm over stock). Cams really do make a big difference and the XEDE the pull is very brisk & smooth. Shiv is the the man!

As a general rule, the bigger the cam set, the more advantage there is to be had from tuning the cams via gears. The factory set probably doesn't offer enough area under the curve to benefit from changing valve timing.

I had a k&n typhoon intake at one point and went back to the stock intake set-up a while back. The k&n sounded good but just robbed power. Untill I get rid of the MAS, I'm keeping the stocker!
