i highly doubt the 5 or 6 hp increase cut all that time off.
IIRC, they did not test an 05 RS vs. an 05 MR and NOT at the same time. If you want to compare, you do that with both 05 GSR and MR on the same day at the same time with the same weather condition with the same driver.

93% Japan, 2 USA so theres 95%?? says trans is from Japan but its a Getrag.
ZF is also German fyi

The MR is servicable like any other Evo, or GSX etc.

Incidentally, the MR transmission lists for $4708.57. Happy motoring.
My teck said mitsu does not allow any servicing or repair on the 6 speed. Its replace only

That is most likely best the techs at mitsu don't know how to work on it yet. Same thing happened with the subaru 6 speed. But when they had a problem they had to ship it to SOA so they could look at it. If they determine that it was abused caused you had to pay to fix it and for the shipping.

Sooner or later 5speed will be gone and all the high performance cars will have 6 speed or even 7speed smg!! may be we are already there... The only reason mitsubishi used 5 speed on evo was to cut down the price. Im telling you guys...6 speed is not a new tech... 5 speed is the past, 6 speed is now, and 7 speed smg is the future!!
I even have 5speed cars but I have to admit 6 speed is a new standard....

That's a moronic statement. I had the 5MT and the 6MT in my WRX. The only benefit was that the gear ratios were closer, so you may have a *slight* advantage on the track.

BTW, my sources in Japan are confirming that the 6MT fails when under alot of HP more often then the 5. We are talking about 400+ WHP cars.

who/what is ZF? I never mentioned anything about a ZF

maybe its a getrag built under license in japan.

where is your reverse gear located, top left, or bottom right? if top right then its most definitely a getrag

so you owned 2 different wrxs, a regular one with 5 speed, and an sti with 6 speed? and then you traded it in for an evo???

The last time i drove a WRX I recall it doesn't down shift to 1st and will grind if you rev match it and force it in first 6MT is stronger than the 5speed on the rex based on people's bad experience at dyno day and etc.

Regarding the evo 6sp vs 5sp. The 5sp feels better in cold weather before warmup. My only complaint is that the 5speed doesn't like to be rushed into 2nd gear but everything else i like the feel better under throttle driving. With normal driving the 6-speed is smoother so go figure

It's probably smoother because the 5 speed has redline in it..

No, I broke 2 POS 5MTs, then I spent a hefty 4 grand on a 6mt from Japan with a suretrac front lsd.

Then I sold it last year and bought the Evo.

Theoretically for the same size transmission a 5 speed can be stronger because you can fit larger gears. Of course, there are lots of variables that comprise transmission strength, like design, alloys used in the gears, etc. So who can tell? I do know that the 6 speed transmission is not an all new design like the STi transmission but a development of the 5 speed box, which is good or bad depending on how you look at it. Probably good. Also, it is possible to have too many speeds. A six speed is probably optimal for a turbo, but for a big v8 with a fat torque curve, six speeds is pure marketing hype and not all that useful, even detrimental because making shifts is costly in terms of time.
