Red face Tranny drain plug is hosed

Whatup,

I'm approaching 30K miles and just flushed the radiator with factory coolant 50:50 with distilled water, changed to NGK coppers gapped at .025 (which has eliminated ongoing misfire problems), installed Stoptech SS brake lines and Ferrodo pads all around, and bled the brakes with ATE super blue.

For the drivetrain, changed rear diff and transfer case with NEO RHD. Car runs awesome, and the tranny noise from the early life of my car is all but eliminated. Drain plugs were relatively free of metal, whereas at the last change (15K miles) they still had a fair bit of residue.

Anyway, the 24mm drain plug has some pretty rounded corners.

I bought a replacement, but I need to get the original one off first. I've tried a 24 mm socket and it just slips. Do I need to drill it out? Get a blowtorch? Any ideas?

Thanks for any input.

You used NEO RHD on every component of your driveline?

Whatup,

I use NEO RHD, which is GL-5 in the rear diff and tc.

I use Redline MT-90 which is GL-4 for the transaxle. Redline actually recommends a blend with MTL, but I just use straight MT-90.

Take care,

if it is round, try a vice grips. think of this as a last resort and a sin.

Are you using a 6-point or 12-point socket? I'm guessing you're using a 12-point. Try a 6-point socket. You might have a chance at removing it still.

Otherwise, you might want to try using a big vise grip.

thanks guys.

I looked for a 6 point 24 mm socket at sears and couldn't find one.

I'll look again. Thanks for the input all.

i agree with the pipe wrench or vice grip.....

If NON of those work........ take a dremel and cut a slot in it and use a large flat head. that has saved me more than once.

Ditto that. Definitely slot it and try the screwdriver method before resorting to drilling.

if you go to sears you can get one of those bolt out things...It just grips onto the side of the bolt so that you can remove it. I never heard the dremel idea, i kinda like that one. dont drill it unless its a last resort. the bolt out thing works wonders, unfortunatly I dont have the packaging anymore so I do not really know what is "officially" called.
