diferrence between 4G63 in an Eclipse and EVO 1,2,3
Guys I need your knowledge on the difference between the US Eclipse and Ja[anese EVo 1,2,3.
They have the same setup on the 4G63 are they basically the same engine. I know they have different turbos which on the EVO's are bigger. Also are the gearbox the same can they be used like swapping it around with one another. Are the LSD the same??

We've covered this once or twice. The differences were slight and easily changed (compression ratio, after turbine piping, etc). Run a search and you should find (hopefully) the really detailed one.
FYI none of the evo engines can be used on a 1g (90-94) DSM due to the lack previsions for front/rear motor mounts that all EVO's have.
In short, other than that there isnt much difference between a 2g dsm besides the slightly higher compression ratio and the fact that they dont have crankwalk problems. As you said they have a bigger turbo, and also bigger injectors.
The final drive ratio is different in the trannys, 1st gear also has a closer ratio to 2nd gear (ie your first gear will go to like 35-37mph)... But with the lower final drive ratio you also need the rear diff gears and you get a much lower top speed. I'm not sure but theres probably a difference in the VC which is very expensive
and something you dont want to burn up (you can use a Viscious coupling elimnator in most cases)
Besides the shift forks and double synchros on 3rd and 4th in some cases the tranny isnt really much stronger, but its longer 1st gear helps some like a GVR4 tranny.

and

A little difference in the air intake etc... but overall the engine itself is exactly the same... the valve cover is even the same.
I'm guessing you were thinking of a newer evo..?

your definitely right on the front and rear motor mount provisions. the front and back motor mount bolt on to the same sub brace that runs from the front to the back. the 2g rear tranny mount goes on that rear pillar sort a speak. I used about 3 extensions to get to the bolts down there on a 96' talon clutch job I did.
why bother with the 510's, unless your getting it at a super good deal? rc 550's ain't priced that bad.

in response to the original question.
I pulled the center diff out a evo 1, and yeah its a two gear. it'll probably fit in a 92 and newer dsm.
and about the tranny fitting in a eclipse, a guy a already took one back to the states and put it on his car. I'm definitely on the look out for an evo 3 tranny to put in my car.

i probably dont need anything much bigger than stock, but its a little more room to play with, and theres a possiblity that i'd get the 560's for the same price (if they have any left).
evo 3 tranny
