Have a few questions about Exedy twin disk

I had my twin disk installed yesterday after it sat in my garage for about 7 months or so. My clutch was doing fine til last week and it finally started to slip.

Now for the questions. When I press the clutch pedal in I hear a noise, Kinda like somehting spinning. I'm guessing this is the chatter that everyone talks about. No big deal if it is, just making sure.

Is it normal to have 1st gear and reverse be kinda hard to get into? Seems while the car is sitting still (like at a light) it's kinda hard to get into gear sometimes. Reverse is a beotch sometimes as well. While driving the car shifts perfect and there are no grinds.

What kind of fluids do you guys use with the Exedy? We used the OEM fluids for the EVO, but wasn't sure if some other fluids would fix my problems.

One more thing. My check engine light came on on my way home from work this morning. I was in 5th gear and was at about 1900 rpm and it kicked on. I always drive kinda slow in 5th gear to time my car so I can shut if right off when I get home. I never had this happen til now. I disconnected the battery to reset it, but I guess I'll try it tomorrow and see if it happens again in the same situation and take it to AutoZone to see if they could pull the code.

Yes, it's probably the chatter...

No, if the clutch is adjusted properly it should go into any gear easily.

I use BG Syncroshift, others use Pennzoil, some use Redline, others swear by stock. It's your choice, just make SURE whatever you run is GL-4 compliant.

The best way to figure this out would have been to use a code checker, but since you already reset the ECU you'll need to wait for it to come back and then check again. There is no point to completely guess what is causeing the code.

Thanks

I guess I'll take it back to the shop I got it done at and have them readjust it. Is there any advise on adjusting it you guys can give me?

I used all OEM fluids so I'm fine in that department. I'd rather have him try to adjust it than change out the fluids again.

Corey, Were you at the Chicago Dynoflash session? Anyway, got a new Exedy Twin last week. Yes, it makes like a psshhh type sound when depressing the clutch pedal. Also, a little difficult to get in reverse sometimes, but not bad. I think it will get easier after it breaks in a little more.

Yeah....I was at Chicago a few months back getting tuned. Were you there? I met one guy with a yellow and a white EVO, but I don't think you were one of them.

I talked to my buddy about bringing my car back to get it adjusted. He told me he would check it out some more, but he said it seemed like it was adjusted as much as it could be. He's gonna pull the code as well.

I just installed a Exedy twin in my car and it shifts smooth into every gear. You should try re-bleeding the system or adjusting the rod under the pedal.

I would bet the problem you have with the SES light is the P0300 code. Not a direct result of the Twin Disc (that I know of) since many people with stock cars are getting it - but what you describe it dead on P0300.

As for the chatter - completly normal. You're hearing the dampining discs spin freely when the clutch is disengaged.

As for fluid - I swear by stock, period.

Best of luck and enjoy the best clutch on the market for Evos!

Had the CEL checked today and it said insuficient flow to the EGR. I'm guessing that has nothing to do with the clutch install. They cleared the code and it came back within driving about 20 miles or so. I guess I'll be calling Mitsu up and try to get it taken care of. I'm going back to his shop on Monday so he can try to bleed the clutch and try to adjust it a bit more. 1st and reverse is a b!tch to get in. 1st seems to have gotten better, but reverse is kinda scary. It kinda feels like the clutch isn't disengaged enough to go into gear.

If you can't get it into 1st or reverse, and it feels notchy when going into other gears, you want to adjust the clutch pedal via the pushrod. Your clutch is not fully disengaging. You can check by coming to a stop, step on clutch for 10 sec, rev engine to a high rpm, and check to see if you can get into 1st without grinding, clunking or resistance. It should go in as easily as if the engine was off. If adjusting the pushrod doesn't help, you may have your flywheel step incorrect, clutch fork worn, pivot ball worn, hydrualics worn, or others.

I do notice that it's easier to get into 1st gear when I'm coming to a stop and slightly rolling. I'm gonna have him readjust everything Monday and I'll post the results.

If you still have problems getting into gear look at installing a clutch extender rod (actually shorter b/c of the pull type clutch we have). Lancershop has them for $25. Mines doing the same thing after a few 1000 miles and will let you know how it works.

Thanks....I'll look into that if he can't get it adjusted any better. He said that it seemed to be adjusted as much as it could be, but we'll find out tomorrow.

Corey - yep, noise is perfectly normal

as for the engagement issue, its the clutch pedal adjustment - very normal.

Stock fluids are ok, or the BG stuff is well proven in the Mitsu trannies to work well

CE light - gotta get it scanned

Thanks Adam. I got it scanned yesterday. It has something to do with the EGR. Something about insuffient air flow or something like that. I'm gonna call Mitsu tomorrow about getting it taken care of.

Okay....took it to Mitsu today and found out that there was a vaccum hose off the EGR solanoid. The nipple was actually broke with it still being inside the hose just hanging there. I took it to the shop and he's gonna order a new one so that is taken care of. I'm gonna see about having someone else try to adjust my clutch (I forgot to have him do it ) and see if it helps. If not, then I guess I"ll order that extended rod from Lancershop.
