How good is the stock intercooler?
So just how good is the stock intercooler? Is it flow or cooling efficiency that becomes the first issue? When is it necessary to start looking into something else and what should you be looking for? Any concrete testing and advice on what to choose? What brands are good and proven and most bang for your bucks? If you run a GT30 and want to be able to push 26-29psi and hoping for around 400whp?
BTW, tried to search but couldn’t find any consistent stuff

andrew at dyno4mance has done a few stage 3 vishnu cars that yeild 428 whp on a DD dyno which is about 500 whp on dynojet and have the Garrett 3037S on the stocker intercooler.. He tells me when the guys that own the car call and tell how they feel, thus far both are very happy with there cars and its staying plenty cool... To get details of the stage 3 talk with vishnu or Andrew from dyno4mance.
There are a couple of factors involved. 1st, what are you going to be doing with the car? The stock intercooler is good enough to handle anything the stock turbo can throw at it on the street, drag strip, or dyno. If you are going to road race, even with the stock turbo, you should upgrade the intercooler. For any type of use with an upgraded turbo I would recommend a larger intercooler. You need to be concerned about when it will be heatsoaked which is the result of not flowing enough air more than just how much air it will flow.
