Question Thermostat Install

Has anyone installed a thermostat on their evo8? I've only found 2 thread about this and the instructions are extremely vague.

I've got the manual here:

http://www.justchil.net/gallery/evo_engine/thermostat

My question is: Do you HAVE to drain the coolant to change the thermostat? I let the car cool down over night and when I started coolant started to leak

Anyone have tips on which coolant to buy? I'm sure I can search and get the right mixture for my application.

well, you'll prob have to at least drain the top of the motor and the rad to bring it down to the Thermostat level. You might want to ask a mitsu parts dealer if there is a gasket in that area or if it requires some sort of sealer.

As for coolant, Prestone makes an "All makes All Models" 50/50 antifreeze which works great and is premixed. Depending on how many miles you have you may just want to go ahead and flush the entire coolant system.

I think you do need to apply some sealant.. I'm @ 25k miles so I may order some new hoses and just flush the entire system.

Here is the manual on doing this:
