How hard is it to install Transfer case??

How hard is it to install Transfer case??

well i purchased a used transfer case and the dealer wants $425 to put it in......i could do it myself but i'm a little worried....some people i've heard have issues with lining it up and gaskets...stuff like that.....i don't want to blow out another one....anyways....any helpful advice at what i would have to watch out for....anything will help...i don't want to have to dish out another $425...thanks...wayne....www.pulpracing.com

if you haven't done it yet, I don't recommend you do it. This is 2 peoples job.

I would say $425 is fairely cheap.

It shouldn't be that bad. A lot easier then replacing a clutch. There shouldn't be a problem w/ gaskets if you don't use pry bars on them. Lining up the transfer case wasn't a big deal; at least when I did it.

Make sure when you knock the splined axle through the transfer case and tranny that you don't break the c-clip.

you also need that special puller to pull the t-case off.

Nope. You need a slide hammer to take out the splined axle though.

If your worried then don't do it, its going to cost you way more than the price to install it just to fix it.

yeh, slide hammer, that's the tool. I just couldn't think of it.

Not many people have slide hammer in their garage you know.
