Walbro 255 lph Pump Concerns

Apparently, there are two different versions of the Walbro 255 lph pump, which is a popular upgrade for the EVO community (and many other cars as well). The two different versions include a low pressure model, and high pressure model. I am not certain if there is any visual difference between the two, although they carry different Walbro part numbers. There is apparently a nominal price difference between the two (~$15) models. A turbo car will increase the fuel pressure above the idle setting proportionally to the manifold pressure. What this means is that a turbo application will almost certainly want the high pressure unit.

What this boils down to is before buying one of these pumps, it may be worth your while inquire about which model you are getting. FWIW, I'd rather pay a few $ more from a source that guarantees I'm getting the correct model pump.

If in doubt, the model number will positively identify which you have.

Just FYI

Can you post the model numbers for both the high pressure and low pressure fuel pumps?

The 342 model is for the EVO.

"lph" = Liters Per Hour. This has nothing to do with the model of the pump other than its flow capacity.

If the #342 model is correct for the EVO, the #317 model is the low pressure version of the same pump. In other words, be sure you're getting the 342 and NOT the 317.

and make sure it's stamped 342 on the pump itself... some have gotten a 341 in the 342 box; Same pump but the fitment doesn't work.

I was one of them. It sucks big time when you got the fuel pump out and it doesn't fit.

Also, the 342 sold for Honda/Acura, and many other cars is also the same high pressure pump. Sometimes you can get a better deal $$$ buying a "Honda" pump.
