By the way if ya dont believe me: http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/index.html
they reviewed hks' cheapest intake.

I've had my Injen intake for about 6 months and I love it. You get the intake with upper IC piping and a loud stock BOV

The fact of the matter is foam filters dont have the filter capabilities as cotton filters.

Unless you drive in a very dusty environment all the time, you're not gonna notice much of a difference between the filters as far as dust, but there is a difference in build quality, and the HKS RS is top notch. If the Apexi really trapped all that dust, it has to impact performance. It's always a tradeoff between filtration efficiency and performance, especially after the filter has been used for a while. There is just no way around the laws of physics. Choose the one that looks best to you, because in the end, they are all pretty much the same.

Does any one have the Apexi intake? Does that make the spool and BOV sound louder as well?
I'm worried about these open air filters as so much heat comes off the engine in the Evo, more than any other car I have owned. Surely a underbonnet open air filter will not be ideal? Especially since the turbo is right there about 20-30 cms off the filter, it must pick up a LOT of hot air?
The reason I ask about the Apexi one, is don't they sell an aluminium box that you can fit around the open air filter?

apex DOES sell a aluminum isolation box, but its not on their website... i found it at www.hopupracing.com and as of Feb 1st, its on sale for $110. i think its a good idea, but its HUGE... you'll probly have to remove your IC spray tank from the looks of it... thats why i was interested in the APS cold air unit for $229, and the IC spray relocation kit for $189. so for a total of about $460 you'll have a complete cold air set up. i would personally opt to not get the IC spray kit and mount it behind the battery in the back right corner of the engine bay. a big open spot there could accomidate the factory tank and you will still maintain the overflow from the tank. a few well placed zip ties and some clever work will make that setup look nice! plus you will be able to actually SEE the CAI. as for the apex-i filter storing up all kinds of dust, ALL filters hold and store dust. id rather loose 2 whp and not have to worry about the internals of my engine getting all jacked up with debris and other crap that can get up under your hood.

if money is not an issue, get the HKS Kansai cf airbox. works like stock & lets you run aftermarket filters...

Damn that HKS Kansai gear looks wicked. So will that work in conjunction with say a HKS RS filter kit? DOes anyone know if it will work with the Apexi filter kit?
The ARC induction box I saw a picture of. It looks interesting, does it basically just draw air from under the bonnet still though? It looked like it was a cube, with filters on several sides?
Does anyone know if the Apexi heat shield utilises the stock air feed? Dosn't seem like much point shielding off from hot air if you are not gonna give any cold stuff anyway! Does anyone know if you need to modify anything underbonnet to get install it?
