I'd really suggest you not "make it work" and get the correct disc.

The disc does not seem as though it's designed for the tranny. Had to be filed by hand just to get it to go on at all - which was VERY tightly... Apparently others have used this disc by filing it enough to make it slide?????????? Just doesn't seem like a person should have to file a brand new disc for a performance car in order to make it fit the tranny. I guess we'll file it some more - we've looked through the hole and the TOB is clearly pulling the pressure plate just like on any other EVO we've seen.

ACTman and everyone else. Thank you for your replies and knowledge. Any other thoughts regarding how to make this tight disc work are appreciated.
Talk to Oleg at ClutchNet to see if they have a solution. I believe they heat treat their parts after they are broached which means the splines may move around a bit (shrink) during heat treating. It could be as simple as swaping it out with another part. I am sure he would like to know if there is a problem anyway.

You are a rare breed. I commend you.

Oleg (the owner of ClutchNet) is a very sincere person and I am sure it will get worked out. While we are competitors and don't trade our secrets, we stay friendly and even send customers to eachother when the need presents itself.

Not that some sort of reverse psychosis happened with ACTman's suggestions, but I did put an order through today for the HDSS ACT Clutch kit.

I should have taken the hint before I ordered the clutch, when I was told to file the hub splines.

ACTman I have a few questions while your on the hook:
- Is the HDSS clutch disk the same as OEM Mits? It looks the same?
- Is the TOB the same as stock? If this is the case I can return the one from the kit and save $50.

Also, what is the ACT homepage address?

BTW, Ivan from clutchnet was very facilitating in returning the disk. He was more than willing to work with me on another disk and even a huge price break on a pressure plate to make sure I was taken care of!!

I don't know if I got the wrong clutch disk, since they are shipping several Evo 8 clutches this week. I do know one thing, I was not the first person to have fitment problems with the 6-puck clutchnet disk. The person I bought this from told me to file the splines on the disk.

The friction materials on our disc are different and the cushioning between the linings is reduced. The disc itself is the Exedy EVO 8 replacement unit. You can only get the factory replacement Exedy design from Mitsu. and of course pay dearly for it. I actually like the factory hub design a little better but the linings have proven to fail prematurely. The release bearing is stock. I think there is only one manufacturer for them since Exedy has a patent on how the release bearing attaches to the pressure plate. Our homepage is www.advancedclutch.com. The site is a bit dated right now but we are working on a new look and more technical information for the future.

NYREDEVO, you were damn right! This clutch is sweet! The engagement is smooth, but not stock smooth. I notice a minimal amount of chatter when in rush hour traffic, but nothing I can't live with. I cannot wait to finish the breakin period on this bad boy and try a nice launch!

If you want a clutch done in the Milwaukee area PM 440 4x4 and he will take care of you! He did a great job and best of all he stands by his work and WILL make sure you are satisfied!
