Is the flywheel worth it?

Getting ready to have the stock clutch replaced with the ACT with the street disk. Car has no mods so far, 62000 miles. Is it worth getting the Fidenza lightweight flywheel? I am considering it because the labor is already payed for. Plan to finish the mods with intake and full turbo back exhaust but that will be all. More importantly, is there any downside if I do get it?

On our S2k when we got a new flywheel you needed a bit extra pressure on the gas when letting out the clutch for the lighter flywheel to get working right...but once we got 100 more hp in the car, the flywheel felt normal...dunno about all the advantages though

The big question I think is what's the condition of your current flywheel? I kind of subscribe to the "as long as you're pulling it that far apart, may as well build it up..." I don't think there is a downside to putting in that flywheel.

No experience on my Evo, but I did put a Fidanza on my old Eclipse. Low-speed (like parking lot) driving wasn't much fun, but I got used to it. It does require a bit more "feathering" of the throttle to get going without stalling, but again, you get used to it.

Since the Evo already comes with a fairly light-weight flywheel, the difference may not be as drastic.

What I did notice was it got to the higher RPM's MUCH faster. Since you're already replacing the clutch, I'd say it's worth it. Expect a bit of a learning curve at first, but it's worth it.

I did the flywheel and ACT clutch before installing a turboback exhaust. I noticed a bigger increase in performance from the clutch & flywheel than I did with the exhaust.

I noticed the same on a customer's Evo... Compared to a Honda, the drivability of the light flywheel is great on the Evos. There are not the inital "hard start" issues that I noticed on my Integra GSR... it has the 8.8 lb ACT chromoly flywheel. After getting used to it, I'd never go back.

yeah, putting on the exhaust was almost a disapointment by comparison.

i have the ACT/fidenza setup...I love it. Defintly worth it. Quicker response to the throttle, great setup, go for it!

Yeah, I think the "hard start" problems came from driving a car with a high power clutch and flywheel...with NO power...it worked great once we SC'd the car, and there's definitly a crapload more throttle response.

I've got the Excedy Hyper Single which came with a lightened flywheel, and it seems like it does rev faster. How much it really helps though, I'm not sure. I believe you can only resurface the stock one a few times, then you'll have to buy one anyway.

I thought when reading some of the forum posts that when everyones clutches were dying it was actually the weak mitsu flywheel not the clutch itself. So shouldn't you be replacing the flywheel if anything? And I would end up replacing it if money for the part itself isn't a problem because it would be bad replacing the clutch then it getting put back together and having that die later on and need to pay for labor this time.
