MR 6spd swap into an Evo 8?

One thing I admire most about the MR's is the 6 speed tranny. Whenever I am on the Turnpike or interstate, I sometimes get tired of cruising at 70-80mph with the engine buzzing at 3000-3500rpm. I was wondering if there would be any possibility of swapping in the MR's tranny into my car. I wouldn't see any problem considering the body and chassis are almost the same. I was thinking of doing it should I need a stronger tranny in the future. Instead of getting a beefed up stock tranny from TRE or Shepherd, I will just get an upgraded MR one from them. As always any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm sure its possible, but then u also have to transfer everything that comes with the transmission. Your better off just beefing up the stock tranny.....it will be a lot less expensive. Im sure you'll have to give ur left ******** just to get a hold of a 6-speed and everything along with it. But hey, if cost isnt a factor, then by all means go for it. Im sure you'll get plenty of feedback from all the EVO gurus soon enough, so just listen to what they have to say. Good luck with that!

IMO it would b better to use stock tranny cuz i wanted to swap the 6speed when i get an evo also but like peeps will try and charge you hella cuz its a rare tranny and i bet not that many MRs will be wrecked. i say save the money and build the stock one.

I would look at the gear ratios and drive an MR before I did this. The sixth gear is almost the same as the fifth gear on the 05's and older. It's like a 100 rpm difference at highway speeds, almost negligible. The extra gear goes between our 4th and 5th gears... kind of useless IMO. The 06 evo IX has much shorter gearing at the top end and spin at maybe 3200 or so at 60 mph.

Well, if your motivation is a taller top gear then maybe you should consider having Jon at TRE drop in a taller fifth gear. Buy the used transmission I've got and be one of the first to make that mod.

Now that's an idea.

dont forget to consider weight...they dropped numerous things out of the MR, and they only lost about 85lbs a believe.....or less....the weight on the 6speed is more, and dont forget to consider the transfercase for the ACD....so swapping the trans would add a considerable amount of weight to the car....might want to think about it twice

There's also the ACD that you would have to deal with if you put the 6speed into a 03-04.

That's strange, that's how fifth is on mine. So I guess the sixth gear doesn't help any. They just put the gears closer together it seems.
