is my clutch gone?
Hey everyone,
Once again, ultraflip with another problem.
This time it maybe serious. I'm under the impression that my clutch is about to go on me. Without bs'ing everyone, yes... i drive the car aggressivley, every time i'm in the driver seat, it will be a spirited drive. I have just about 25k on my 2k4 evo. And of course, never launched but this car has been raced (on the track of course
)
Enough of the background, onto the scenerio. Prior to MOD, my clutch felt normal, grabs fine, picks up fine, stays in place just fine... Just recently, my clutch feels REALLY soft. It doesn't feel as grabby as it does before. Let's say you're in 5th gear, 2k rpm... not on the throttle, i can slide it out of gear back into neutral no problem... as if i'm already stepping on the clutch. As for slipping, it feels like it's holding in all the gears. I don't smell any clutch toasting.
Onto the question. Is my clutch going? I don't want to be like someone else on the board (myfirstevo) and replace my clutch when the stock one still has 70% left. Is their an easy way to identify how much life is left on the clutch?
Thanks Everyone!

sliding it out of gear is not really a "clutch is going" indicator. if your power vs load balance is just right you should be able to slide it out of (and even into) gear pretty easily.
Clutches are often a term used to indicate the whole assembly; in most cases only one or two parts are worn in a fading clutch. A clutch plate with 70% material left is useless when the pressure plate is coated with junk.
Keep in mind most new clutches are sold as kits, so you get a new clutch plate with a new pressure plate, so you might as well put the clutch assembly back to 100% enitrely.
The indicator is any slippage under power (acceleration) in any gear.
