Whats wrong with Buschur alcohol kits
No problems with mine.
The only thing I found weird. If I'd push the test button when the car is cold with the rpm's already a little high, without reveing to 3k, the rpm's would raise when the alky test button was pushed. When the car warms that's when it want to stall out.

topnotchevo,
Were you born a butthole or did that develop over the years? First off all, if I'm not mistaken we are the only ones offering a easy drop in kits for the '03-'04's. You can NOT buy it any cheaper anywhere else, including direct from the manufacturer and the mark up isn't what you would expect. We sell it because Steve at SMC sells a quality product.
We have seen a few controllers acting up lately. This is a first.
To the guy who said there are companies that have been making them a lot longer, I think you are probably mistaken. Steve has been doing these kits atleast 8 years at this point which is longer than most other guys that jumped on board after everyone else was doing it.
As you guys will also notice there has been no problems with warranty on the units, Steve stands behind the units 100%, so do we and so does Al.
I will get ahold of Steve and see if he has any idea what is going on and post back for you guys.

Just got off the phone with Steve. Here is what happened.
The circuit board in the controllers were re-designed recently. He has warrantied 2-3 controllers already.
There is a capacitor in the boards that on early designs were soldered right to the board, it was very difficult to do. To speed up building the kits the capacitors were moved to make it easier to install them so more kits could be built. Steve tells me that the noise from the engine (electronic I would guess) is frying these capacitors. The capacitor is there to filter the power to the controller.
Anyway, he has stopped building the control circuit board this way and has switched back to the direct solder method he use to use.
Sorry for any problems that this has caused, we will fix any that have problems for free.

i just called about 2 hours ago over to switzer performance and matt (the guy who runs the dyno) is sending them to me. Problem is they rev it to 4000-4100 rpms then hit it so it doesn't show actual spool up from low rpms. I spoke with them about running methonal and getting a re-tune and also doing some runs from lower rpm's to show actual real world spoolup.

Buschur I just bought a kit from you and if it does act up later on it would suck big time cause I would have to send it overseas.
1. I am interested to see how we can identify which is the new or old controller.
2.If we test the unit and there is no prbolem does it mean that we have a problem free unit or can it still act up later down the road?

The important points to follow here is that Steve (the guy at SMC) is probably the best vendor I have ever seen at fixing anything that goes wrong and backs this stuff with a unconditional money back guarantee and full waranty
The thing about these kits is that as we continue to use them on the evo and give Steve specific Evo feedback he has worked with us to change them and modify them to suit our needs. In a short period of time we have made some very significant improvements - such as a pump that requires no lube and which can pump water mix, and also a flexable pump mounting system, to name just a few.
It is regretable that this clitch occured on the SMC kit - but everyone effected will be made whole and the units continue to be fully warrantied.
Just for reference - I use the same exact off the shelf SMC / Buschur alcohol kit in my 9.98 race Evo and I have not had any problems what so ever
