cams installed... engine dies out sometimes

After I installed my 272's the rpm dips too low and the engine dies out. This only happens when I come to a stop from around 40mph or above when I let it cruise in neutral to a stop light(letting the rpm drop too fast). But when idling or driving around normaly it doesnt happen. Besides the cams I have the top head built, ported, racing valves etc.... Also the car has not never been tuned before so could this be the reason why its flaming out when coming to a rolling stop in neutral? Not sure why it only flames out when the rpm drops instantly, when coming to a stop while in gear it doesnt happen.

If it's not tuned for the cams, that's probably the reason.

It could also be your intake and VTA BOV if you have either, which I assume you do.

If you just let the rpm's drop theirs no load on the motor, and with the new cams your car doesnt know how to compensate. Try downshifting for the time being that should keep it from stalling out, but you really do need to get a tune. You never want to run your car too lean and i wouldnt be suprised if you are with those cams. You could burn something up in your motor.
Good Luck
Jeff

We did hook up a 02 sensor and the A/F is fine. Just want to make sure its normal that it does flame out when installing cams without a tune. Also my BOV never had a problem before so I dont think that is the reason its flaming out? I will get it tuned asap, thanks for the feedback.

You hooked up an O2 sensor? You mean, in addition to the ones that are already on the car or what?

Anyway, I can't believe you've done cams and a rebuilt head, but have never been tuned. That's quite strange...

I got tuned and my car still does it. Of course I have 660cc injectors, a bigger turbo, a lighter flywheel and a vta BOV that could all be contributing to the fun though. What happens with my car is that it floods comming to a stop and sometimes dies from too much fuel. Car has already been flashed and it didn't help, however it did make it run smoother on cold starts. Maybe the new ECUTek would do the trick. If i'm going to spend more money on engine management im going AEM though.

Im not sure what he hooked it up to but it does look like it is the 02. I just got the car back yesterday, before that I only had a TBE.
