Thanks Jack! Good to hear that the knock is expected with my old tune used with the new ignition. I will tweak the timing

Yeah, you might also notice the car is now running a bit leaner..

Some people think I am nuts for this, but I use the wide band O2 sensor with the AEM EMS to run O2 feedback to control my A/F ratios. Yes, a full on cell by cell tune of the map would look nicer on the EMS... but my A/F ratios are ROCK STEADY and it automaticly compensates for any changes I make. I will be getting a full on tune from David Buschur when he gets the new dyno installed though.

MalibuJack,

I now run an HKS DLI-II on my car. You are right about ignition timing. But i don't have to modify it as much as you did... may be it's because my timing was very low to begin with (I could not run higher than 12.5 degress at 7000 rpm on 91 octane). I had to retard about 0.5 -1 degress in some area at around 5000-6250 rpm.

I am testing with some larger plug gap now, and it seems to run fine at gap 0.30 with no sign of misfiring (on BR8ES). I remember that I was having problem running 0.27 and ended up with 0.24-0.25 gap before I installed my HKS DLI-II

Did you get a chance to enlarge the plug gaps?

Nope.. left the gap alone for the time being.. but I left old worn out plugs in there, and the "Came back to life" and haven't had any misfire at all once the engine is warm..

Any time one increases the spark energy and/or increases the plug gap, it gives the effect of advancing the timing without actually doing so, simply because anything that does a better job of igniting the fuel gets the combustion process happening more quickly. This is apparent both at low rpm, where advances in timing (real or virtual) create more torque, as well as at higher rpm and boost pressures, where the factory system becomes less efficient.

Therefore, this should be expected when installing such a device, and the entire timing curve should be (re)addressed.

I might also mention that it makes sense that more efficient combustion (if this is the case) will result in more free oxygen, and thus an indicated leaner mixture.

Could someone please help me out?, I tried opening the link about the HKS DLI II but I keep getting errors. Could someone repost or redirect me to a good working link regarding this HKS DLI II write up?

Thanks in advance.

I put the HKS DLI 2 on my evo because it would not butn a 100 shot of nitrous on 19 psi and my plugs gaped at .20. Now I have the DLI 2 and I spray 100 on 27 psi and plugs gaped at .25 and have no missfire problems at all. I love it. I WILL take care of all of your missfire problems.
