Generally, I aim for around 19 degrees advance total at WOT on pump gas at high RPMs. Remember that timing advance has to go up as the RPMs increase. This is because there is less time for the combustion to occur. But you still want to give the combustion adequate time to hit max pressure just after TDC. So you have to advance the timing as RPMs increase. Mitsubishi ECUs tend to do this on their own.
On race fuel, I aim for around 23 degrees of advance.

With that much timing advance, the cylinder pressure would become too high; also the mixture could ignite before the piston reaches the top.

Right on the second. The mixture is supposed to ignite before the piston reaches the top!!
4G63's are a hoot as they can take an insane amount of boost. You can pick out the high boosters at the track; they are guys with the oil dip stick duck taped to keep it from blowing out the crankcase.
Have fun!

For experience, the stock conrods cant´handle more 1,6 or 1,7 of boost (with race gas), over that theseproduce a giant hole in your engine block. for more of that boost i recomend to use special conrods like HKS and stock pistons.
I use in the group A rally car the stock turbo and a 34 mm restrictor and it produce over 2 BAR of BOOST!!! you don´t need a special turbo , only you must modify the wastegate actuator, and the boost raises up a lot!! Sorry my poor english

Hey claudius how much did it cost to convert to a MAP sensor?? I plan on running the loudest atmospheric blowoff valve possible (I know it may be .1 sec slower but I love the sound) What does the conversion involve?

No; be careful when you order an ECU, it comes in several parts: the ECU itself, the boost control module (if you havent got good electronic boost control already), the wideband O2 sensor (to tune it, unless your tuner has one), the MAP sensor, sometimes wiring kit etc. Make sure you speak to a pro.

"well when I said that I was talking about just the EVO"
"well when I said that it was pertaining to the average person"
Blah blah. Whatever. He made a statement that was wrong. He got called on it. End of story.
Why is everyone on this site so unwilling to listen? Do you not realize that some of us have been doing this forever with the 4G63? Do you think we say this stuff for our health? Do you think we are purposely trying to mislead you? What is it? Lay it out for me.
