maybe it's so the blinker sound is louder. it seems to come from that area.

My other car is a Mazda 6 and it has the exact same thing in the exact same place. The car has all the options and there is nothing behind it just like in our car.

My buddy has an 05 SSL with these slits. Most likely for hands free phone as someone already said...

on the jdms ( and maybe euro models) the slits are airtemp sensors like some mentioned for climate control.. the only cars that don't get that are the RS models

If the JDM models have Auto A/C, then this is for the in-car temperature sensor for the climate control. They used the same part in the U.S. to commonize.

Except for the fact that the JDM versions are RHD.

...so much for commonization.
