My best friend and I just went and pick up a brand new 05 EVO. We were observing the differences bvetween my MR and his GSR EVO and we found that his car has an opening with three horizontal grooves on the dash between the key ignition and the radio.

Could you guys tell me what the heck is that?, is it a sensors for the A/C? my MR does not have it.

The other thing that I observe is that the 05 regular EVO center console looks nicers than my MR because it has a plastic circle around the shifter booth.

Last but not least the shifter itself is about 2" shorter on the regular EVO8 than my MR

 

the shifter is shorter b/c of the reverse lockout mechanism on the MR. With the 6spd they had to be careful that you didn't accidentally slip it in reverse when going into 6th. Therefore you have that collar that you must pull up first.

 

Not sure I have the same thing on my 2005 GSR also with the 3 little vents. I am curious now that you brought it up to know what it is....my guess is it's just a little vent area.

yes a pic would be good cuz i just went and looked at my 05 GSR and didn't find what your talking bout. does his GSR have the SSl package???

 

i know what ur talkiung about with the vents. i have it also (05 gsr w/ ssl). i had an earlier 05 model with ssl and it didnt have it, then when i got the newer 05 model, it did. i went to the dealer to find out what it was but then i saw that all the newer 05's had em. after looking through other 05's it seems that the earlier 05's dont have them and the latest 05's do. mayb something went wrong at the factory where the dash's are molded? lol i dunno.

2 of my friends have them vents. its 3 slits right near the ignition. If you look @ the ignition you should see the vents on the right.

Anyway the 3 slits are directly left of the radio volume knob.

btw hen, you're at rutgers? which campus? i don't really see that many evo's around school

I went to rutgers college, graduated back in may of 2004, i used to live at busch campus I have some friends that live somewhere near college ave, because they are in pharmacy school. I might drop by busch to see how it is now. I heard they changed the roads completely.

My 03 doesn't have that; looks to be an air temp sensor or something ala BMW... I doubt that's it though.

 

Yeah I got a 05 Evo with ssl, and it has those slits.
