As an update, my problem has progressed from being unable to shift at or above 7k to now having trouble getting OUT of gear above 7k. I went hard in 2nd today, then tried to shift (not hard, just normal), and it grabbed on the way out. I've never felt that, so I wouldn't think it was a mistake or bad shift on my part, especially since I wasn't shifting fast, but rather accelerating quickly in 2nd gear.

Mike, thanks for the email. I will contact Dirk and let him know my experience. I did not make this thread with the purpose of blasting ACT. I just wanted to share my experience and see what others had to say. As you can see, with 11 pages in just over a week, this seems to be a major concern, but I'm not 100% sure it's the ACT's fault yet...

I had this exact same problem with my RRE clutch, lockout of gears above 7K at WOT. I thought I had adjusted the pedal up enough, but it turns out I hadnt. RRE told me to adjust the pedal pretty much as high as it can go with just a small amount of freeplay at the top. It takes some getting used to cause the clutch engauges pretty much right at the top of the pedal travel so launching it without slipping too much is a little tricky, but it solved my high RPM lockout problem completely. I suggest you adjust the pedal as far up as it can go with less then a half inch of freeplay, then take it to the trial and error from there. Test drive it, if it goes into gear, adjust it down very slightly, test drive it again, keep adjusting it down until you get locked out of gear again, then back it up half a turn and you should be set. Let us know what happens, good luck.

Your symptoms sound more and more like the pressure plate isn't fully disengaging / engaging, which could be a clutch adjustment problem. I remember when you first had your ACT installed reading a post that said you haven't needed to adjust your clutch pedal. Well now that it is worn a little it may not be a bad idea to adjust the pedal... if you haven't tried this already.

Be careful adjusting a pedal though. If there isn't enough free play at the top, the clutch is never FULLY engaged and you will burn it to $hit in a matter of weeks.

My question is where is ACT when the problems arise? I know they were on here before when they had just released the product line for the EVO and all, now the issues arise and no ACT replies. What gives?

Call them.

Most of these vendors are busy people and don't have time to dork around on the internet all day. It is a much less productive process to be typing things out when it comes to troubleshooting as opposed to a good old fashioned phone call.

not really, you type it once....you have to say the same **** over and over and over and over when people call.

although, they don't want to get into a debate on the web because they can't explain the lockout....they've tried.

A better question in my mind is where should you go first as a customer? First run to the nearest message board to ask the peanut gallery? Or better first to the helpful dealer that sold you the part, the knowlegable mechanic that installed it, or possibly the manufacturer of the part?

If you go to ACT's web site, they have the best contact info of ANY manufacturer you will ever deal with. Little pictures of everyone too! ACT is _exactly_ where you would expect them to be. Life does exist outside of this message board, I promise :-)

Thank you for patronizing me like I'm your child , very professional on your part.

Fact of the matter is when they were pushing the product they were here frequently...on the very message board. Telling us how good the product is etc etc etc. And even though life exist outside the message board as you so kindly put it, this is where they decided to "reach out" to the EVO community to push the product, so if you use the forum to sell you should also be aware that people will use it to question your product when it fails.

Thanks

Well thats all well and good, but if your own customers are experiencing the problem, maybe there really is an issue with clutch. Many people have had the pedal adjusted, and haven't solved the lock-out.

You are welcome, I meant to be kind :-).

Now do a search for posts from actman and see over two years worth of tech answers and help from the president of a quite large company. All his posts are very soft sell if at all. I think he has earned a lot more respect than is being shown here. Just my opinion. I'll let his record record stand on it's own (and mine as well). Just because you dont see blathering about it here does not mean that the percieved problem is not being agressivly investigated.

All well and good in that I still have not met a stock clutch, ACT or my own No Name clutch that was experiencing the lock out, that could not be adjusted. If any of my customers are experiencing it, that only means that they have not brought it to my attention. I am just old school in that my first reaction isnt to run to a message board with my problems as the first option. A problem I will learn to deal with I guess.

Last night one guy that had bought the EVO ACT from me but installed it himself contacted me. He said he had adjusted it several times and the problem would not go away, he was considering getting a twin disc. He passed by the shop, I adjusted it and it is fine. He was turning the rod the wrong way :-P

I took some photos, they are here:

I have two more local people that will be bringing their cars by for a look. In my ever unprofessional manner, I'll fix them up at no charge and let you all know how it worked out and how to fix it.
