Would 2G eclipse oil filter work on USDM evo 8?

I'm going for an oil change at around 1000mi and the dealer does not have any filter as of yet. Does the DSM 4G63 use the same filter as the evo 8?

Does your users manual give the part number for the filter? You could cross it that way. Im sure the 2G part #'s are on vfaq or something.

To add on to this subject, what oil filters are people going to use? I know that Fram are crap, and probably Mobil 1 and K&N are just hype. Mitsubishi could be ok too.

I dunno about other oil filters out there. OEM filters seems to be always the best plus Mobil 1 tri synthetic as I use these often on my turbo teg.

You may want to try to see if the 1G dsm oil filters fit. They are quite a bit larger so you get more filtering element. I run a 1G filter on my 2G.

On the brands of oil filters, yes Fram is absolute crap, I urge you not to use them. Some good filters to use are of course, the oem, mobile1, K&N, and Puralator Pure1. All of these are higher quality and incorporate a high quality anti drainback valve so you will retain some oil in the upper passages of your engine when the car is shut off. This aids in quicker oil circulation on the next restart.

Personally, for my cars, I use Puralator Pure1 filter (pn 10193) and mobile1 synthetic 10w30. 114k miles on my '97 GS-T with 170 compression across the board (factory compression is 178) and no signs of crankwalk. Proof enough for me.

The guys at TAD suggested that I use Fram PH6607. It has worked just fine on my VII so I would assume it will work on the VIII also.

I definately urge you to reconsider your oil filter choice.

Fram filters are made very low quality. They have cardboard endcaps and the one that do have the anti-drainback valves, the valves dont seal well at all. These cardboard endcaps and even the filtering media has been known to disintigrate well within the typical 3000 mile oil change and allow unfiltered oil, and the remains of the filters innards, to float freely throughout the engine. IMO, saving $10 on an oil filter is not worth it on a brand new$30K-$50K car.
