Quickie Oil change question.

After draining is it safe to dry crank the motor on a turbocharged car to get the oil from the valvetrain out? I remember shade tree mechanic did that on their oil change and then again that's a push rod engine

Better ideal just wait and drain to get most out? For the evo owners, how many quarts do you fill?
4.5L?

thanks,

I would never recommend dry cranking the engine.

You are risking destroying your bearings at the cost of trying to get a little more dirty oil out of your engine. Definately not worth it. Just make sure to use a good quality oil, preferably synthetic and a good oil filter and all will be fine. I always recommend synthetic oil on a turbocharged car because the oil is put under a lot more stress from the increased heat.

just let it sit for an hour prior to draining, 99% of the oil will drain.

gtr-- Never dry crank your engine! Oil is needed between main and rod bearings, otherwise you will destroy them within seconds.
The best way to drain the oil is when hot. Go for a hard drive and the oil will drain out like water, just be carefull0its really hot.
