Weird boost problem, please help.

Ok, so for about 30k miles I've had a buschur intake on my car. Recently i decided that i was going to go back to the stock intake. So i reinstall my stock intake, and all is well for a few days then all the sudden today as im driving i go WOT in first gear and i hear a pretty audible hiss. I look at my boost gauge, and it says 15 psi and dropping. Dropping almost to 0 above 6k rpm. I check my IC hoses, and my connections going to my BOV. Pretty much i disassemble everything and clean it and put it back together.

go for a drive, and it seems fine. I get back to the house and realize that i forgot to put my air filter back in. Its a stock paper filter. I go out for another drive and the problem is back. I decide im gonna put the buschur intake back in and see if the problem persists. Install the buschur intake and all seems fine. I dont know where to look anymore. I've checked every single fitting that i can think of. Anyone had anything like this before?

also, i installed a turbo header the day before i installed the stock intake. Would this be a problem? I checked all the nuts onthe header and they are all tight.

help me please im dynoing this weekend and i want it to be right before i go.

Im pretty sure it's a bosot leak, i just dont know where or why. So i was hoping someone could offer a suggestion about where it might be leaking in a place that i haven't thought of yet.

did u take of the maf pipe for the intake and then put it back on with the stock intake
if so theres that small hose underneath that u might have forgot to connect to your stock intake pipe, if not try to reset the ecu by taking of the battery clamp for a few minutes once u put the stock exhaust on see if that helps..

ive got that hose blocked off. ECU has been reset, but i see no reason for that to cause a boost leak.

Hey Dylan, could this be the infamous snorkle problem? I've read that if it isn't connected well it can lift up and choke the stock airbox above 6K RPM. Either that or the stock filter is somehow collapsing and restricting flow. I doubt that though because, as you know, I just put the stock airbox back in my car and it seems to hold fine. The only difference is I also reconnected the stock boost control solenoid and all the hoses, etc. Wish I could help more...

are you talkinga bout the snorkel that is riveted to the chassis, and leads into the airbox?

i've never heard of that proble,, but funny you bring it up. Mine isnt connected at all. It's just sitting there, but i figured the hood would at least hold it in place.

Yep, that's it, and without the rivets is exactly the problem as I've heard it described. Try putting them back in or otherwise securing the snorkle. I'm betting that's it.

See ya at the dyno, by the way.

Evil-

That is definitely your problem, Warrtalon just pointed that out to someone on another thread and the issues ceased!

Hilarious.

Yes, Dylan, this is the problem, 100%. If you happen to dig back into a past thread of mine, you will see that I spent a week trying to diagnose a phantom "boost leak" only to find out eventually that it was my damn snorkel!!! What happens is around 6k rpm, the suction is so great that it pulls the snorkel up against the hood (no fasteners to hold it down) and chokes off your air supply, which then takes your boost down to 0 and saps all your power while also making a high-pitched screech that sounds like a boost leak.

You, my friend (or not, whatever), will be a happy man once you put in those 2 fasteners. If you don't have the originals, get 2 out of your trunk lining...
