No, there were no bad batches. This question has already been asked two or three times today, yet you didn't bother to read them first by searching a little bit. We have explained this time and time and TIME again. The K&N Typhoon is the worst for the Evo, but it's not the only one that causes problems. All of the aftermarket ones that replace the plastic MAF pipe (from intake to turbo) cause issues without a tune. Some, like the K&N Typhoon can still causes issues even after a tune. There are many testimonials on here...all you have to do is search for "typhoon." It's that simple.

As for the HKS SSQV, that's another common mistake. You either come from the Honda world or hang out with the wrong group of friends, because you have chosen the 2 worst possible mods to start with. For whatever reason, this has become an epidemic with our newbie Evo owners buying these expensive and useless parts for the wrong reasons (sounds and bling instead of power). You think your car has no problems with the VTA BOV, but you're wrong. There is far more to VTA than just idling properly and not stalling. Again, this has been covered COUNTLESS times, so you need to do a quick search to learn about that, too.

The best intake to get is no intake unless you upgrade your turbo.

dude, umm im looking for power too, and hks bov was not for the "bling" factor. i didnt like the stock bov sound and i have a cone filter dropped in the car. i dont have alot of money right now because im goin to skool in ohio and i have no time to take it to buscher because of my schedual. alot of money goes into gas and then books for skool. im def not one of the guys who thinks about bling more than power, thats not y i bought the evo.

o i didnt mean to get you all worked up b4, its jus that i was late for class and didnt have time for my slow comp to search for intakes.

dont worry warrtalon is always like this........dont even listen to him, but as for the cone filter i would say just get a drop in filter for now cause you really wont need another intake until you start making some serious power and tuning yourself with a stand alone system.

Uh, why not listen to me? My points were valid. He said he's looking for power instead of bling, so then why does he have those 2 expensive parts, when neither provide any measurable power? It is a BIG mistake to buy those two parts when short on cash and when trying to make power.

For the cost of that intake and BOV, he could have gotten an mbc, gauge, and mail-in flash for a combined 30-40whp over stock with perfect driveability. The only problem is he would have had to have dealt with that stock BOV sound. OH darn...

I'm not trying to join this "bickerfest", just offering some friendly advice.....

......sell the intake for now. Regardless of what you paid for it, or how much money you have to spend right now, you'll be better off, performance wise, and with a little extra cash back in your pocket, if you stick with the OEM airbox with a drop-in filter (K&N or Works seem to be the best).

As far as the valve is concerned, sell that too.

You'll also be better off (in both the performance and $$$ depts.) by sticking with your stock valve until you crank up the boost. And a VTA valve is always a problem on a MAF equipped car. Speed-Density setups or MAP setups can run a VTA valve, but MAF setups should not.

Take the extra money you save by getting rid of those parts and invest in some other mods. Exhaust should be #1 on your list (as far as I'm concerned).

Good luck!
