Friend has a 05 evo with 5000 miles on it. For some reason when you accelerate and pass 4500 to 5000 rpm's will drop 1000 rpms and then boost again. He doesn't drive hard at all and never launched it. Does anyone know what the problem might be???

bone stock...when you drive rpms drop from 5000 to 4000-4500 by its self when you're still trying to accelerate

 

does it feel like it falls on its face? id say boost leak or fuel cut. but since it hasnt been touched i dont know, if the clutch was slipping it would rev higher not lower. dont know what would cause the engine to fall down that many rpms.

 

When he ask me to drive it, it would boost then kinda of lag then boost again. Pretty weird, mine never done that and I drive it like it was made to. Thanks for the input

 

Intercooler pipe fitting from where the upper tube meets the pipe coming from the Intercooler may be loose. Check that connection. The engine moves back and forth and it sounds like its pulling something. That's the first place I'd check.

 

Did he change the spark plugs? If he bought any kind of rapid fire, platinum +4 or splitfire crap this will happen as well. Also, if your gapped wrong this could happen.

 

NOPE...Stock plugs. Like i said 5000 k on the odo. Very weird. I think you're right about the boost leak on the intercooler piping
