You can run VTA. I ran an HKS SSQV ver 2 kit for about a year. I also ran the HKS EIDS to compensate for stalling. It does not affect your gas mileage. It does not require a stand alone fuel management system.
That being said, I recently switched to the APS--and its a much improved driving experience. The VTA is not as loud on the APS, but it still makes some sound. The HKS is loud as hell.
You will hold more boost with either the HKS or APS. You will notice that immediately. With the HKS you will also notice valve flutter and driveability issues at part throttle. It works great for WOT applications but sucks for a daily driver.
Go with the APS and get the best of both worlds. You still get a VTA BOV during WOT applications and all the driveability of Recirc during normal driving. Its a win-win.
As for the newbie stuff, this has been thrashed over and over on this board and thats why your getting a hard time. Search is your friend

I have no experience with the Turbosmart or the Gofastbits BOVs. I have used the HKS on the Evo and also a Greddy on my old Eclipse. I think the Apexi BOV is also fairly decent.
I can say the APS unit is one of the best possible solutions.

If he wants to get an aftermarket "BOV" like the HKS let him, its his choice everyone!!!!!
What ever "BOV" you choose just make sure you RECIRCULATE it. The evo is set up to run MAF, and if you VTA, the computer has already added fuel for air that isn't there. This will only cause you problems over the long run.
I have a friend who has a HKS unit on his evo and he is recirculating it, and you can still hear some sound. It holds boost great, he is running 20 psi till redline, no leaks at all.
I know i don't have an evo yet (Just ordered my Black Evo IX this past saturday October 8, 2005) and im glad that it comes with a metal "JDM" reciculating valve. Im not going to change it out because RECIRCULATING is the best thing for an EVO. Yes, I do suggest replacing your plastic stock unit because it does leak, and just recirculate your next "BOV" and you will be fine.

The fact that you don't think buying a BOV just for the sound is ricey says it all, because that is the VERY DEFINITION OF RICE: installing performance parts for reasons other than performance, such as aesthetics (e.g. sound), especially when the part in question will cause a DECREASE in performance.
Yeah, a 12-second car that runs 12.01 on the stock turbo with an OEM BOV, stock intake, stock turbo, stock IC piping, and stock cams. Not impressive at all, I know. Maybe if I replaced my DV with an HKS SSQV in VTA mode, the noise would put me in the 11s?

I'll sell my HKS SSQV with Ver 2 upper IC pipe for $150 shipped. But I'm not responsible for how much you may or may not hate it. I'll throw in my SAMCO fittings as well.
That way you can try it and sleep easy knowing that you didn't get totally ripped off at $400.
If you go to resell it after you buy the APS, please sell it to someone else for the same price.

Warrtalon if they want to run VTA let them, just leave it alone. They will find out that it will only cause them problems, since the evo is set up to run on MAF.
The only thing i suggest is to replace the crappy plastic unit, and go with any aftermarket unit, just make sure to recirculate it. You will still get some "SOUND" just not like VTA. Or, for a cheaper alt. to an aftermarket, get a JDM unit. Like is said in my first post, my friend as an 04 evo, he has the HKS unit recirculating and its a great unit.

I also have a good friend with an MR running the SSQV recirculated, and it works fine for daily driving and at the drag strip. He did run into problems at the road course, though, because it makes part-throttle driving hard to control. It wasted about a day's worth of racing while he tried to get it tuned in properly with the nut adjustments.
