Two turbos two results.....

Check out this dyno chart.

The two comparisons are of my RS and a TME 20G with a max boost of 30 psi on race gas. The other car is a customers with a max boost of 38 psi with a GT40R. The builds are identical other than the turbo/header combinations.

It's easy to see why the 20G is so much fun to drive, up to 5500 rpm is has more HP and torque than the GT40R. After that well.........it's fun to look at the chart! haha

The "after that" portion of the curve makes me want to change the car over, looking at it you would think YEE HAAAAA!! It is just so much more boring down low.

My car at this power/torque level should dip into the 10's with trap speeds of about 127 mph. The other car should dip into the 9's as it has already gone 113.8 mph in the 1/8 mile and just over 144 mph in the 1/4 mile.

BTW, the other car, has a full cage in it, runs on normal radial tires, has carpet, front and rear seats, dash, door panels etc. It is lightened but still looks pretty complete.

Enjoy,

Dave,

This is a very interesting thread, but could you replace the 40R car dyno pull with a dyno pull from your Black Evo with your 2.3 stroker and 35R kit on it. I believe your black Evo has the same parts as your RS, but with a different turbo and stroker kit.

I am very interested to see how this set-up would perform against your RS and this TME 20G.

I am looking for the ultimate street set-up and would like to see the comparisons between these two set-ups.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The chart you requested is here. This is another chart for my RS, I thought I grabbed the same one but they were a few minutes apart. Anyway, the other car is our black car with the stroker engine and a our GT35R kit on it. About the same peak boost as the above GT40R car but would not hold as well to redline.

Does the stock turbo cause HP to fall off up top too?

I thought torque only fell off while HP stayed fairly flat.

The faster you spin a MD the more load it puts on the car. The boost also falls off from the peak of 30 the 20G was hitting, between the two and me not wanting to put the most aggressive tune I could possibly put into the car the HP is going to fall off.

Difference in the vehicle weight on the dyno makes no difference in the HP ratings, minimal anyway. If I know the exact weight of a car with the driver and the car rarely has anyone else in it I will input that weight, as with my RS. The MD database uses 3625 for an EVO, which is what I use most of the time. Everyone pisses their pants and moans about that number but if you take an EVO with a full tank of fuel and two adults it is pretty close to being right.

As I always say, "It is what it is."

The torque curve looks good.

Three questions if you don't mind:

(1) Which cam set?

(2) 0/0 Cam timing?

(3) At what rpm (on the dyno) do you reach 25psi?

Ted B.

HKS 280 cams, set at 0/0. I didn't pull up a datalog as I am sitting at home but I am going to say that on the dyno 25 psi will happen by 3800 rpm.

APS,

I have run the normal 20g on my car and now the TME. The difference in spool up is hard for me to tell by the seat of the pants. They both spool very quickly.
