my clutch

I have a stock evo 8 and i was driving bringing my car upto about 5000rpm and i was shifting from third to fourth and after i put it into fourth my car made a weird scratching noise so i pushed the clutch back down to take it out of gear and my clutch just fell so i picked it up with my hand and it wouldnt go back down. so i got my car towed to the dealer ship and they said are charging me over 1000 to get it fixed should i just put an after market clutch instead of the same factory clutch? if so what type?

find out exactly is wrong. seems like more than a clutch to me..but anyway if you have mods or plan on getting mods you should definately get a better aftermarket clutch it will cost you less or maybe a little more depending on how much you wanna spend the average labor at a shop for a clutch install is 600.00 to 800.00. the clutch can be bought for less than 500.00 shipped. or if you going with more mods get a better clutch 1200-2800..your choice but i would never pay to put a stock clutch back in that just retarted even if your evo is stock.

ok the clutch is considered a "wear" item is it is not covered buy the manufacturer. so there are pros and cons to this.

pro: you can put in whatever the hell you want to and they cant tell you other wise.

con: you have to buy the part and pay the labor to have it put in which is maga $

like the guy above said how much do you wanna spent 500-600 single disk (ACT is good)or 1000-3000 multi disk (EXETY, RPS)

It sounds to me like the release bearing came off the pressure plate.

be careful here, the clutch doesn't sound bad by your description, it sounds like a mechanical failure of sorts. The clutch disc facing is considered a wear item, and is not covered by warranty, but the release bearing is NOT called out. So, if you have a mechancial failure of the release bearing or any other component other than "clutch disc facing wear", and everything is stock, I think you have a very good argument to have it fixed under warranty.

You might want to edit out the racing part being how it's not allowed on these forums.
