Poll: FMIC - Front Mount Intercooler
Regarding AMS and Buschur:
Do/does your ic('s) fit without modifications? what about JDM evo8's?
I have pretty solid info that the Nisei needs extensive (for me) modifications to fit. Including cutting s few pieces of metal and the underpanel. While capable of doing these things, I'm just too **** to live with them. I don't mind if I have to buy the piping, just don't want to do anything irreversible to my car.

Our Deluxe kit falls in with no cutting. Our deluxe kit only requires cutting of the undertray if you use the factory undertray. For guys with flat splitters in the front they go on with no cutting or modifications.
The race FMIC will also require fairly minor trimming of the undertray and the mounting tabs for the steel mesh in the grille have to be trimmed. We are actually making new end tanks now that are shaped differently to try to eliminate that trimming. I won't know if it works until we get the first one welded up.

The only trimming required is to the undertray. Some people choose to remove the thing completly, or replace it with one like the Beatrush one which would clear the intercooler with ease.

That "Behemoth" intercooler you posted a link to is NOT behemouth. 25x11.5x3, is smaller than our Standard and Deluxe kits which come in at 865.2 cu in compared to the one you posted at 862.5 cu. in. Our race core by comparison is much larger 1160 cu in.

I got my Buschur Race FMIC a couple of days ago and dayum is that thing big! Looks like a quality product and as long as my data logger verifies the great results on this thread I will be very happy

The idea that additional frontal area would create more drag is ridiculous. This would only hold true if the intercooler was larger in surface area than the actual BUMPER!
There are other things to consider too… how well the air moves through the intercooler and if there is any pressure loss. A loss in pressure could be overcome by increasing the boost… but of course that will increase the temp on the air. (air heats as it’s pressurized).
hahaha... actually he is correct, it would create more drag. which is why i didn't contest, becuase if you read the whole thing i've contested every little possibly discrepent thing. picture this... if you have nothing but a tube frame and it has some drag coefficient and you put the intercooler in... taht drag coefficient would go up. if you then made that intercooler larger without surpassing hte boudnaries of the tube frame, your drag coefficient would still go up.
the fact that the intercooler is attatched to the car means that you'll have to push it, and if more air is going through it that is more viscous and frictional drag.
however it's a bit of a non issue why? because you can't have too much cooling, even if there is a need for increase horsepower to push the car through because of the additional cooling goodies it's still better to have the cooling. this is why f1 cars have so many ducts and diffusers. contrary to what many peopel would think an f1 car is possibly the most unaerodynamic type of race car there is. it's coefficient of drag is huge.
also every type of race car that competes professionally has tons of ducts forcing air into heat exchangers, these all cause drag, yet race teams still put them on, even in rally.

Don't get a wrong Idea. Evo's areo dynamic is horrible already. just do the 4th gear pull and it will be like having 1000lbs added to your car after 100 mph.
However, under 60 mph, there will be the great benefit having large intercoolers. you can ignore the drag under 60 mph.
