I just came across this thread. I had the same issue with this unit when I first bought it and swapped out the stiff spring. I went and purchased some synthetic bearing grease and dabbed the ball with it. After slightly greasing up the ball, I've NEVER had a problem again. Do this and make sure the spring is seated properly and I don't think you will have any more problems. Hope that helps.

I think a 1 mm larger ball will solve the problem, the question is where can we find it?

Well i've just spent the last 2 hours out messing with this damn thing. I'm still getting spikes and i'm out of ideas. 4 times i've taken it apart now and still can't get it right. After cleaning the hell out of it with q tips and found all that gunk which was keeping the ball stuck, i figured that MUST be the reason for crazy spikes. Nope. As for using a bigger ball, i don't think that will fix it, but who knows. When that ball is in, it sits in a "cup" sorta thing and "should" cover that hole until it reaches disired boost. I'm still hoping Mike from Forge will figure something out for us.

I tried this earlier and it didn't do a damn thing. Although that was before i cleaned it out really good, so maybe that's why it didn't work for me?

EDIT: Now that i think about it. I used mobil 1 5-30 rather than "bearing grease". Anyone know if that should make a difference? Besides the fact that i "greased" it up while it was still VERY dirty inside and probably didn't help it one bit?

This is just odd enough I'd encourage you to find someone who has an MBC with no issues to swap for a bit. See if the problem goes away and you've not got some other issue at the wastegate or something ???

I don't want you guys to think that you're being ignored in any regard, I'm just still trying to figure out two things:

1: what is causing this issue as there is no definitive answer to that question yet

and

2: what we need to do to fix it.

These are things that I'm working on as quickly as possible, so I'll let you guys know what I can come up with.

Thanks alot Mike. I didn't doubt you or your profesionalism and know you'll find a cure to our problems. As for me, i think i may try to "grease" the ball one more time now that's it's clean as a whistle inside the chamber. Other than that, i'm going to borrow my buddies hallman MBC to be for certain it's the UNOS and not anything else. Unless the grease can fix it of course.

I've been driving my car today after greasing (synthetic bearing grease) the ball yesterday, no spikes so far, and it holds boost perfectly fine. I think the ball seats so tight on the "cup" that it gets stuck.

What brand and where did you find that grease! I can't wait to try it. How much did you use? Does it hold strong? How many clicks to get to 21psi or whatever you're set at? Come on man, spill the beans!!!

20 clicks huh? What did you have do originaly? For example, before i cleaned mine out, i was at about 7 to 8 clicks for 21psi. You know... Now that i think about it? Last week, before i started getting boost spikes.. I recall having to turn down my boost a click because i was boosting 22psi all of the sudden. I forgot about it cause i just related it to weather/mods/flash. A warning sign i won't forget next time.

The first time I set the MBC it was 7 clicks for about 21 PSI, 2 weeks later the crazy spikes showed up and I replaced the spring with the soft one, 90 cliks for about 19 PSI (all the way to the +). Now that I greased the ball and used the stiff spring, I think I did 20 clicks for holding 21 PSI. I know 17 clicks got me up to 21 PSI tappering to 20 PSI.

Still nothing. Got the greace, checked and re-checked all my lines. Even double zip tied everything. Pull after pull after pull and 70 clicks later with the heavy spring, spike to about 23 and fall HARD to 16psi. I'm thinking maybe it was never my MBC to begin with? Anyone know anything about the stock WG actuator? Is there a screw or nut or something i can tighten down? Can i get at from the top or do i need to get under the car? Again, every line is good and solidly connected.

EDIT: Maybe the UNOS is just too good for the stock WG? Maybe when using the UNOS, we have to upgrade the WG actuator or we'll be seeing this alot more? Anyone know how late Forge is open till? I may need an actuator over nighted to me! Mike, if your out there, how soon can i get one from you?

Hmm, whoa, now you're not getting ENOUGH boost with the stiff spring even after 70 clicks? Wow, this is a dilemma. THe only thing I've heard of related to a wastegate actuator problem is the nipple getting bent. I wish I could remember the details, but I can't. It's strange that you're now getting 23 -> 16 with a lot of turns on the stiff spring. I know you're in ND, but is there anyone you know with an MBC that you can switch out?
