Better off to just read it......

Couldn't even come up with a topic title.

First, we were closed today but I wanted to go in and test a new turbo. For now the results and such have to stay quiet. More in the next day or two on the review.

For now this is what is important.

I need to thank Vtech8tr, Luis C. for motivating me. He had sent me a datalog to look at some time ago. I noticed his boost was just FLAT to redline. I asked what turbo he had, he said stock. I then asked what boost control he was using and he said the AEM was controlling the boost. I ordered a selonoid to give controlling the boost through the EMS a shot.

I have ALWAYS hated electronic boost controllers. They are overpriced and I have yet to see one that holds a flatter boost line than just a good manual controller.

Well today I learned different. FREAKING incredible.

The turbo I was testing had basically the same boost line as our 20G's. In other words you will see peak boost of 22-23 psi and then watch the boost fall off to 18-19 psi by redline.

I have tried everything to get rid of this problem. External wastegates, heavy duty actuators etc. No fix.

I did a quick butt connector install of the selonoid. First pull with the car I watched the boost gauge nail 30+ psi (this was on 94 octane) I just squinted my eyes and held it to the floor. I wanted to finish the pull to get a log. Checked the log and made some adjustments to the table I made. I had nothing to go off of so I guessed. Guessed to high

Within the next 5-6 pulls I had a FLAT boost line of 22-23 psi all the way to 7000+ rpm!! IN-freaking-credible. I cannot believe it.

I am dead certain that the 20g's will hold a minimum of 25 psi to redline and I am guessing closer to 27-28 psi.

So for all of you that asked will the 20g's hold 25+ psi to redline, the answer is YES. I had said no before but IF you have a boost controller that works this good it will.

Funny thing is how easy it was to set up and get right. I could still fine tune it more but it's as flat as any boost line I have ever seen.

I need to work on the tune now as I think the 20G will go over 350 whp on pump gas on our dyno.

I have these selonoids instock and will supply some quick notes for setting it up for anyone that needs them.

Iwas told it takes alot of time to setup the aem control. Therefore i just left the hallman in and forgot about it. Do i need the laptop to change boost settings? What do you think the average time will be for setup?

Yeh, I had a GM boost control solenoid that I wanted to run with the EMS, but 90% of the people I talked too said I should keep the Hallman. I would love to be able to use the EMS for boost control.

Let us know which solenoid you are using. Thanks for more great research!

With my Turbo XS D-TEC boost controller, I can actually get the boost to raise above 7k by jacking the duty cycle up to 95% at 7k. I can get it to go from 20.5 psi to over 22 psi. I have a stock turbo and stock actuator. 22-23 appears to be the limit of how high it will go when the rpms pass 7k though. I do not run it this way. I discovered this while setting it up. I typically run just shy of 22 psi and this controller will hold that boost easily to redline. There are some good electronic boost controllers out there. It's just hard to know which one are good and which stink.

Sry for this noobish question but is this an AEM exclusive solonoid or would ohter piggy back system work, like i know the ECU+ has a solonoid controler so would this solonoid work with that. Also, could you just replace the OEM solonoid with this solonoid you speak of without an EMS or Piggy Back/Flash and so on?

Dave,

Thanks for the kind words but i cant take all the credit as Doug aka Badazzcr from Topseed is the person that originally set it up on my car. He has been using them for the past 2 years now with all the aems he tunes.

The AEM is an amazing standalone as it has alot of options that are incredible in it. I play with mine on a daily basis and feel by doing this i have grasped it pretty well. Of course i have alot of friends i network with and help me get a better understading of it.

Alot of people say that because they don't know how to use it with the AEM . My car is setup pretty wicked, on pump i run 24 psi and with meth on i run upto 27 psi to redline. The AEM takes care of everything, it's all automatic .
