well, when you started comparing yourself to those guys.....i assumed you raced like that.

its my hobby too, id rather just get more power than rip the car to shreds and put in lexan glass and all that crap. just my opinion though....but if you wanna be fastest stock motor ever....guess saving weight is the only option.

Im not trying to do it... just too lazy and cheap to build mine

My car most likely wont push much more power than it does currently outside right now. Its well over 500 and the turbos rated at 600. Most people that do well on turbos will just barely beat the theoretical output of the turbo hp potetial (And hit it at the ground, not motor). I dont see this car making much more power with this turbo. Its cheaper for me to lighten it right now then it is to make it more powerful. Once it starts to even out again Ill switch back to making more power. Right now however, wieght is much cheaper than switching the entire turbo, exhaust, plumbing and building the motor.

Well I just found a car with the carbon doors on it and spoke with the guy that installed them. They are 47 lbs lighter on EACH door Yes, they do cost alot but Jesus.... damned near 200lbs of weight for the 4 doors. Granted there would be a little less weight savings with all the window motor and glass and stuff but still would be almost 40lbs each door. I was honestly amazed at how light these things were.

The rear dash thing and bracing is being cut out of my car with a light bulkhead welded in place. The fuel cell will also be installed at the same time and much of the trunk cut out for it. Im guessing the weight from that stuff will be around 40-50lbs total but I really have no clue. If I do all doors this car would easily be weighing 2700lbs with the full 10 point, cross beams and 2 seats.

Now I also got excited about gutting a DSM so its going in when the Evo leaves. The car will be turned into a sled car (Cut the front off from the motor mounts forward). Most likely switch to a fiberglass hood and hatch and really go to town on the gutting the inside. Im hoping to get that car to around 2,400-2,500lbs with me in it.

more info about the doors please.

I don't know if they are really 47lbs weight saving each, seems alittle over the top.

You would also have to take into account certain substructure the CF door wouldnt have that you could remove from the normal door.

Would there be a big safety issue with putting in CF doors? I have thought about doing those as well, but I'm not sure if I want to risk it for the possibility of side impact. And thoughts?

There is no impact beam in the CF doors so yes it is a serious safety hazard.

Yes you could drill out the spot welds holding the impact beams to the stock doors but you will need bodywork when your done. They would still be significantly lighter by at least 25 lbs/piece.

I finally got it pretty much done. Full interior in the front (No rear seats), full 10-point roll cage and a rear bulkhead. 2990 with 3-4 gallons of gas, without me.

Still have stock rims, stock brakes, stock body panels (all of em), all plastic is still there, and the stock stereo. I also have the stock fuel lines and the -10s.

Stupid roll cage, window net, bulkhead, driveshaft loop, etc ended up weighing alot more than I thought. My guestimate is around 180lbs with the 6-point belts.

No it is mild steel. Chromoly would have been probably about 60 lbs lighter... I couldnt justify another a grand or so to have it chromoly... I could buy a few carbon doors for that price and save just as much.

There is a lot of weight to be saved in the doors. We gutted our Time Attack car doors, costs us nothing. Still work well, very very light now.

Well dont leave us hanging How much weight? If you didnt weigh it what is your estimate.. youve been doin this for a while so I think your guess should be pretty accurate.

And as for the crash beam did you drill the spot welds or just grind whatever you could? I just dont want to need any paint/bodywork if I do something to the doors. I also want to keep the functionality of them (With the plastic cover and everything on).

By the way, what is your drag cars weight now?
