Roll Cage Installation

Stupid car finally moves again so now I need to install the cage. I was wondering a few things before I bring it over to have it done... Do I need to remove the rear window to weld it in? The guy that I am bring the car to normally makes cages / frames for cars.... he doesnt normally work on street cars and assumed the roof wouldnt be on it Anyways, any tips, tricks or things I need to know would be helpful. Thanks

Take all the seats out and tape everything off so any debris don't melt/damage anything. Good luck.

The interior will be completely removed. I am wondering about the rear window. Do I need to remove it or no?

No need to remove the windows normally, what we did with my car was to cut holes in the floor to allow welds near the roof to be done well below the roof line with the uprights projecting through the floor. After the wellding at roof level was completed the cage was raised and strengthening plates welded in to the floor where the openings had been cut. This is the best way to ensure all of the welds at roof level continue around the fully circumference of the tubing.

Why not just ask the welder?

A cusco roll cage would not pass any legal sainctions, it is purely for looks and would do more damage than good if in a car accident or roll-over....

Ding Ding...that is the correct answare. It is the only way to ensure a good weld at the top of the cage.

Thanks again for the solutions guys. The cage I am putting in needs to be certified. Thats why I didnt buy the Cusco Hopefully I can get the holes in the dash to look good also. The welder that I use is used to building frame race cars... they dont have a roof while he is working on them. He puts a roof on them after he builds the frame/cage. Hes not used to working on a true streetcar.

One last question.... for the rear bars (From the main hoop going to the rear), how did you get those welded on with the cage lowered through the car? The cage I am installing is a 10 point cage and I am assuming the rear bars should be welded at the very top of the hoop as well so in order to lower the cage straight down I would need to somehow lower those bars as well.
