Why does the car keep running after pulling the alternator fuse

Since I have a relocated battery in the trunk, I have to use a battery cut off switch. To get this working correctly you need to have the alternator disconnected. I have pulled the fuse out and I got the alternator light on my dash but the car keeps on running. The switch works fine If I disconnect the positive cable off the alternator but I would rather just pull a fuse. I would really love to have a swith inside the cabin of the car if its possible as well. Is there a secondary fuse somewhere? Does someone have a alternator cut off inside the cabin?

no it is running off the battery when you disconnect the alternator. if the battery was disconnected and you pulled the fuse everything would die

if you kill the battery with the alternator connected the car keeps running.

The car doesn't NEED the alternator to stay running. It is drawing power from your battery for things such as the ECU and whatnot. You can always do what the person above stated. Why would you want to disconnect your alternator? Good luck.

If you do buy a cutoff switch, make sure you get one with circuitry to save your alternator (usually some kind of capacitor). Shutting down the engine with just an on/off switch on teh battery leaves the alternator nowhere to dispose of the charge it would generate as the engine comes to a stop and you end up with a fried alternator.

What exactly are you looking to gain by adding this switch?

the alternator just charges the battery...im sure itll die eventually....just leave it running, when the battery dies the car will turn off

cheers

if u want the car to turn off with the flip of a switch connect it to the engine management or ignition

get a battery isolator. the relay on it hook to a switch, hook up alternator turn on/off to same switch, when you flip off they both shut off. u can buy a isolator(very large relay) for about 15-20.

good question, why the switch?

Those are the rules at Moroso, they require the car to turn off instantly with the flip of the cutoff. They are very strict with the rules. I also need to get a new battery box because they don't allow a plastic one For now I have the cutoff switch behind the passenger side tail light. When I go to tech I just disconnect the postive cable off the alternator. When they flip the switch the car turns off. I just don't understand why pulling the fuse doesn't work.

That is the closest track to Miami When they built the Homestead Race Track they promised a 1/4 mile track. Of course it never happened. I guess building more houses was more important. I can't wait till they shutdown the smaller events there because of "noise". For now I gotta drive for about an hour and told I can't race because my battery box is plastic
