It could probably be done but it wouldnt be as easy as you think. You would need the tranny and rear end off a Galant as well since the GSX gearing is different. You would also need the other ECU, intercooler, pipes, exhaust, and perhaps wiring etc.
I'm not sure if you already have a GSX, but it would be much cheaper to just buy a VR-4. You can find many good examples between $3K-$5k.

Well that is not really that good of a price, and secondly there is a heck of a lot more that goes into it that just the engine. I got my JDM engine, tranny, transfer case, driveshaft, complete rear end including suspension, complete front axles and suspension, wiring harness, ECU, etc (you get the picture) for $2100 from an importer.
So your looking at almost $3000 in parts for the swap, plus the GSX, plus labor.
Im sure you could find a VR-4 for about the same price (if not less).
I would definatly not go through the hassle.

Just wondering... why would you want to do this? The 1G GSX and GVR4 share the same engine. The only difference is this: According to the staff of Conicelli Mitsubishi, cars produced between March, 1989 and the third week of April, 1992 have 6-bolt motors; May, 1992 to the first week of May, 1994 have 7-bolt motors. The 1G GS-T, GSX, and the GVR4 all have the 4G63 engine. The GSX and GVR4 both have AWD. The GVR4 has all wheel steering as well, the GSX doesn't have this.
There are different 4G63 engines and, generally speaking, components from one 4G63 can be fitted to another 4G63, because the basic components (head, block, etc) are the same.
The 91 GSX has the 6 bolt motor.
Some of the info above was found at: http://www.dsm.org

Nevermind... just read that you asked about a Galant GSX. All I saw was GSX, and I immediatly assumed you were talking about the Eclipse. My bad...
You might try asking RRE about this. I'm sure they'll have an answer for you!
