Fourth gear "draging" in MR 6 speed
Hello everyone-
I have a problem with fourth gear in my IX MR. It seems that the gear shift leaver wants to "drag" unwillingly into gear. All other gears are working perfect. There is no grinding of any kind, it almost feels like the linkage may have gotten bent somehow. Thoughts anyone? BTW-I am running stock clutch, flywheel etc.
Thanks in advance,

I had some work done to my car, specifically Buschur Upper intercooler pipes and mini battery kit. The reason why I am saying this is because about two months ago coming from Vividracing I noticed that all the gears were very difficult to engage and disengage.
I realize that the were a bunch of harness from the battery and other cables such us the Hallman MBC in cabin controller directly pressing down the shifting cables. I did not realize the issue until a few days later. My car was fine until I had a couple of friend sdoing the SMC install on my car, they had to remove some UICP and reroute cables and harnesses(that was the issue)
I had a person shifting from inside the car while I was observing, I found out that this harness were routed underneath my Upper Intercooler pipe and they were putting tremendous force on the shifting cables.
I rerouted the harness and the problem went away. I hope there is no obstruction on your shifting cables.

Thanks, that is interesting because I just noticed this RIGHT after I had a aftermarket boost gauge installed. Maybe the wires for the LED and boost line are crossed up over the shift cables. My car only has 1000 miles on it so I could not understand how this could have suddenly happened. I will check on that ASAP. Thanks again!
I would say have someone in the car doing the shifting over and over and over, all the gears. Once you watch the gear mechanism and shifting cables moving up and down, left and right you should be able to tell what is going on.
Check everything, now days with all the electronics in the cars and with the tiny play that the MR has there might be something stuck.
Have you install a Turbo timer recently? some turbotimers run parking handle brake wires through the actual parking brake lever and ther might be something stuck.
Please, let us know either way.
Thanks!!

Now that you mentioned the Boost line for the boost gauge now I am thinking of the boost line just laying flat over one of the shifting cables and just getting pinch.
Please check that, now I am curious..

Hi-
No, I have not installed a turbo timer, although it is on my list of future mods. I will check the lines tomorrow and let you know, I have to get to sleep it is getting pretty late on the east cost, but I will let you know what I find. Thanks again for your help!

Hi everyone-
Well, unfortunatly there were no obstructions. Does anyone else with a IX MR have this same problem? Does fourth gear feel like it is stiffer or not as compliant to engage as the rest of the gears?
Thanks in advance,

I had the same problem with my MR..... for some weird reason all the gears engaged w/o a problem with the exception of the fourth.
I think that I was used to the quick flip of gears that I was used to on my Civic with a B series. When I purchased my MR, all of the sudden I was having problems (almost all the time) engaging fourth gear. With practice and patience I found out that I was pulling the shift knob between second and fouth gear.... same angle like my five speed Honda tranny. This was causing an "imposible-to-engage" gear unless I used an unnecesary force while shifting.
If you continue experiencing this type of problem, bring it to the dealer to get them verified for tranny oil and clutch adjustment. I also noticed that the car has only 1000 miles, so let the car wear out the break-in. Mine is around 870 miles and I have not have any issues since last month when I realize the "problem".
Please post any progress!
