"variable" boost

hello, yesterday i received manual boost controller, ebay cheap stuff, bleeder style

my car is completely stock besides 3'' exhaust from down pipe and k&n cone intake filter

i got it 2 weeks ago, aftermarket boost gauge was showing maximum 17psi

the story goes:
1st setting - 3rd gear 25 psi but 5th jumped to 30psi and car had major missfire
2nd - 3rd gear 21psi but on 5th i'm still pushing 25psi

my question is, how come maximum boost is different on each gear, every run was made till red line, throttle all the way down on the highway

another question, what is safe boost for completely stock motor like mine??

more load = more boost, a car with an mbc will always boost more in the higher gears

From what I have heard 24 psi is safe for the stock engine/ fuel setup

You will boost more in higher gears, as Jorden S4 said (hey jorden, just noticed you had an S4. I do too. Are you on AZ? Im "NorCalS4" there, but dont go on much).

But also the quality of the MBC will mater. Example, my FORGE UNOS is set to 24lbs in 3rd, but in 5th is will only hit 25-25.5lbs, even in the winter cold.

End of story, Buy a quality MBC. Get a FORGE or a Hallman.
