2.3l + what turbo?
2.3l + what turbo?
I had a stroker installed in my Evo and it's currently running the stock turbo. I want to upgrade the turbo but I'm not quite sure what to go with. I am a road racer so response is crucial.
Money isn't really an issue since they all cost about the same (~$3500) for a kit.
Anyway, I want something that will give good response, stay in the sweet spot, keep air intake temps down, and give good power all at the same time. There have been some grumblings about the 35R surging a lot on a road course due to it flowing so much air so it maybe out of the running. I just want to get some opinions from people who are currently running a similar setup on track.
Anyone have experience tracking a stroker with a 3065, 3075, 35R, etc.?
I will not be tracking the car with the stock turbo since it will be so far out of it's efficiency range I will be knocking all over the track with a stroker. There is a VIR Grand East event in June so I need to move now to work the bugs out and also get a good tune.

sorry, dont have the stroker, wanted to stick with the drag racing set up, but around alot of people that do, and i would say the 2.3 with a 35r is a very good combo, i see full boost by 3,800 rpm and running 33psi on my 2.0 so if i were you, i would go with the 37r with the 2.3L, IMO
I love my 2.3 + 35R setup (no surging). But i'd want someting a little less laggy for road racing. Don't get me wrong. The lag is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Its just a little too much for the road course IMO. A 30R or 50 trim would be real fun with a stroker and probably have the responsivness your looking for.

I would call up either Buschur or AMS or whoever and talk to them personally. A reputable shop will point you in the right direction and help you find exactly what you're looking for. No offense to anyone but all you're going to get by posting here is speculation and opinions. Good luck man!
Any fast track evo is not running a 35R or larger, so whoever recoomended the 37R for road racing lay the crack pipe down. I will be running a 3076 and a stroker eventually, and it will be tracked heavily, I am pretty sure this is what AMS ran at one lap, and that was good enough for 7th overall. I would call up works, ask what they are running on there time attack car, do some digging for what people are running on their road course dedicated cars.

Just figure out where you want the power band and make your choice based on that with the assistance of a shop. I have a 57 trim on my stroker and it is a bit laggy for me, I also had a 62-1 trim on it and the lag was a tad more than the 57trim. The 50 trim is nice but so is the 20g on a stroker.

Buschur powered ran an 11.5 @24.5 psi on race gas (car has more in it with higer boost). I have driven in it and it spools so quick and stays in the powerband. Very smooth and linear powerband. It depends on what kind of powerband you want.
