My 20G-6-9 = Dead

Well I wasn't going to post this as it will probably add more drama to the whole 20G "saga"... but I'm up a creek without a paddle if you know what a mean. I will post more details later when I figure out what I'm going to do.

Turbo is roughly 6 months old. This happened at the track running 28psi falling to around 25-26psi by redline. This is my second time this year running race gas / higher boost. The car was custom tuned and dyno'd with pump/race gas.

The turbo blew up towards the end of 2nd gear and was taken home on a flatbed. I was unable to find any other problems other than the turbo. The car was running PERFECT before this happened. The MAF is probably trashed now.. not sure about IC just yet but the air filter was full of shavings. The oil and coolant looked clean so I'm hoping nothing reached the motor.

Lots of pics here:

The exhaust side "turbine" broke completely off after I took these pics. It's hard to see but a piece of the "blade" was stuck in the MAF honeycomb. The LICP is coated with oil.. the IC probably is too.. exhaust as well.

What do you guys think?

Did you have an air filter on the car?

looks to me like the shaft bent. wow i have the 20g-9-5, i know its made by FP and not turbochargers.com so im hoping this doesnt happen to me. wow did u contact david about this?

and im sure he had an airfilter on the car, even if he didnt, the particles wouldnt have gotten past the compressor to the exhaust side of the turbo.

Is it just me, or does it look like something got sucked in through the MAF? Might just be the angle of the picture, but it looks like the MAF honeycomb was dented inwards towards the turbo.

If he sucked in something through the compressor, it most certainly could have bent the shaft and made the turbine wheel come apart in the process. Don't ask me how I know this.

Yes.. and there was a good amount of shaft play after very low milage.

Yes I had a BR air filter & intake pipe. Nothing was loose and the car ran fine up until the turbo failed. The piece stuck in the MAF looks like it came from the turbo side. I probably bent it up a little big pulling some of the smaller pieces out. There is still a lot of blade chunks that I haven't found.

I'm not sure about selling what's left of it yet -- OR if I'll need a new MAF.. but I will let you guys know. I wasn't even going to post about what happened but I haven't heard anything back form Jarod or Dave so I'm assuming I'll be eating these cost of a replacement.
