EvolvedGti was with me today and he dynoed as well. It was impressive to see a car with a TBE and MBC to put down 305 whp w/o a tune or anything. The 9's are very impressive.

 

Most of your power was due to the addition of the 10.5 turbine housing and the larger O2 housing. The O2 housing is good for 5-10 whp and the 10.5 hotside is good for 10 - 15 whp. These numbers could be had with a just a hotside and O2 housing upgrade. I think the 9 turbo is a good upgrade but its potential will not be evident at such low boost levels. Just my 2cents.

Thats a nice gain for just bolting the turbo on your car. Makes me want to get the EVO 9 turbo and call it a day.

 

These have to be corrected, though, so don't forget. I'm sure Utah gets as much of a hit to power as we do in Colorado. For reference, with similar mods and alky+93oct while pushing 26psi, I only put down 300whp max here at 6000'. My corrected numbers are 380whp/425wtq, though.

 

Nice gain and I missed the 02 housing until someone else asked you. Which 02 housing did you add to the car when you changed the turbo? I was shocked to see the gains so high but now that I see the 02 housing it makes more sense.

The SS Ebay housing alone will gain around 15 whp, the 10.5 housing is also a solid 10 whp gain.

Curious on the 02 housing. Good numbers.

 

you are right, they were corrected, but you are at 6000' and the place where we dynoed is at 4,540 feet. So we are lower than you in colorado. colorado is more in the moutains, you have the rockies, where we have more like big rolling hills compared to you

 

David, the 02 housing was the Ebay type. I couldn't see taking out the whole turbo without throwing it on to see the difference inpower. I am definately impressed with the power that was added to my car. Everyone talks about how much more lag the 10.5 has, but after doing many logs, if you can feel 100 more rpm of lag then more power to ya. I cannot noticebaly tell any difference in lag. I do realize that going from a 9.8 to a 10.5 will make a difference along with the 02 housing. I wanted a stock replacement and wanted to try something new. I am anxious to run the car with a bit more boost and see what type of results I could yield.

 

Yah, I dyno at 5500', but I don't post my corrected numbers. You have to post uncorrected numbers, otherwise you give people false information. The SAE correction for altitude is made for N/A cars, not turbo'd cars, so you have to remove that correction and post the base numbers. For instance, if I posted my SAE numbers, I'd be saying I dyno'd 378whp/425wtq, but I really only put down 300whp/337wtq. The drag strip confirms this, as I can only trap 109.xx at the drag strip as of yesterday.

I like seeing the immediate before and after gains, but we can't mislead people with inflated SAE corrected numbers at altitude. For example, here's the same dyno run displayed both ways:

Huge difference even at 4500'.

All that being said, I don't know what correction was used or how that works on a Dynapack, so it may not be inflated, but it's still good to post uncorrected ACTUAL numbers in addition to the corrected numbers, especially at altitude.

 

It is really interesting to see the gains of the IX turbo all else equal.

I recently did the 10.5 hotside and ebay O2 housing on my 03 and was astonished at the difference in power I could feel in the midrange and top end pull. Much less knock with more boost, smoother and faster revs...

A week later I added GSC 272/264 cams (from the stock cams) and noticed another good improvement, but nowhere near the gain initially felt for the 10.5 and O2 housing change alone... This is all untuned and by feel so I am sure there is power to be gained in a tune... I am currently trying to coordinate an ECU flash update with Al (he sure is busy and hard to reach these days) so I have at least a mail-in flash to run with until I can get a good custom tune.

If the IX turbo adds even more noticeable on the top end with the hotside and O2 housing the same, that is truly amazing.

 

The IX won't big as big of a jump for you, since you already got a 10.5 hotside.

Anytime you need to ask Al a question, just PM me. You don't need to talk to him to get a mail-in, though. Just send your ECU with the mods, octane, and boost, then you're done.

I agree, since you already have the 10.5, the 9 will not prove that much better.
