The 5 speed has that HUGE (I MEAN HUGE) gap between 4th and 5th gear.... thought I could cure that with a MR 6 speed.

anyone swap yet? if so, about how much was the tranny and the labor to do the swap? Any problems with it?

thanks

you're better off selling your current car and buying a MR version....

Wouldn't the ECU also need to be modifed or replaced for something like this?

I would guess no, since its a mechanical replacement, its a manual transmission, not an automatic.

it will cost around $4600 + whatever you need to fit the shifter in the car.

Don't waste your money.

If your primary concern is the gap between the gates, I'm guessing you are concerned with time taken to shift. If this is true, keep in mind you'll be shifting more often with a 6spd ;-)

i was thinking a used MR tranny for about $1200 and maybe $400 to get it installed???

4th gear redlines at about 110mph and 5th gear redlines at about 165-170mph.... that is a HUGE gap to me!

It is almost like shifting from 4th to 6th in a normal car.....

Different tranny mounting, different gear shifter, different linkages, different ECU programming.

Last time someone did a serious evaluation into this, the cost totalled about 12k-15k.

IF you want an MR 6 speed, buy an MR.

you will need the transmission, tranny mount, shifter cables, shifter base and shifter. a 6 speed tranny with base and mount ended for $1300.

wow...different tranny mounting.....cables, etc.....

Just being cheap.... figured a 03 with 25k miles for under $20k.... i thought for $2k to get into a 6 speed, then sell my 5 speed tranny for $600... $1400 net.... sweeetttttttt.....

maybe not....

I don't know where you guys are coming up with the $12-15k, that sounds quite a bit on the "steep" side.
