Best Turbo For my Setup
Best Turbo For my Setup
I was wondering what would be the best turbo for my setup... Currently i have 272/272 hks cams, arp headstuds, a helix piping kit, tbe, mbc, 255 walbro, aps intake, im going to install an alky kit and going to be boosting about 27 psi. my goal is to reach 400hp and run mid-high 11's no problem. Im thinking most likely a gt30R or an fp3065... but my main question is, what turbo would fit on the stock manifold or how would i make this turbo fit on the stock manifold. Thanks

If you want to be at 400 WHEEL HP and run mid-high 11s no problem while retaining the stock manifold, then you should use the stock turbo. Upgrading your turbo from stock would be senseless.
With a 30R, you have a couple of choices. You can get an ATP kit or an adapter kit like the Vishnu. They both have their drawbacks.
ATP, slow spool and falls off on top end, fabrication not top notch
Vishnu, very difficult to get and long wait time when you can... .
Both should give you over 400 Dyno Jet whp on race gas with the 30R.

so the stock turbo would be better than the 20g9 on the stock manifold? What about not using the stock manifold? I was thinking about getting a full 30r or fp30- kit but now going with just a better turbo itself and keeping the stock manifold (cause of $$$). ALso, What other parts should i buy before my dyno tune that will help me hit that 400hp and give me consistant times. Thanks

Even 42R can fly off the line, you just have to tack it up and slip the clutch. A lower spooling turbo preserves the clutch and drive line. If you get caught in the wrong gear with a slow spooling turbo, you'll get beat by a Prius.
Just keep in mind the ATP kit spools like a 35R on a 2.0 so it won't be fun as a daily driver. That means the turbo kicks at about 4500 to 4800 and starts to fall off hard around 6800 rpm iirc. Running c16 you might get into the 11's, but there are better alternatives. It's still very fast relatively though.
I think the ATP 3071 is very close in power to the ATP 30r, but kicks in 600-700 rpm earlier.
You might want to look for a used kit and have it checked out by a good shop if money is an issue.
Thanks for the info so far, Really Helpful. so the atp 3071 kit spools just as slow as a gt35r huh, That sucks. What are my alternatives in order to get faster spooling/better top end instead of the getting the atp kit or a $2999 buschur 30r kit?

OUCH IN MY OPINION, YES I AM A BIT PRO AMS BUT LETS GET REAL HERE, YOU ARE DRIVING AN EVO, NOT A CIVIC. DON'T GO CHEAP WHILE TRYING TO HIT A PRETTY GOOD #!! dID YOU SEE AMS TURBO KIT GROUP BUY, 3995 FOR A 50 TRIM!!!! THAT IS CALLED AN INSANE BUY AND THEIR QUALITY IS AWESOME.
THAT'S WHAT I WOULD RUN, WELL THATS WHAT i AM RUNNING AND ITS AN INCREDIBLE STREET TURBO. BOOST HITS HARD AT ABOUT 3700 RPMS.
