i agree that a bigger/better turbo would be alot more effecient and safer to hit the goal im trying to reach rather than pushing the limits of the stock turbo. Also, what other mods did those stock turbo guys have in there car. And i spoke to Ams the other day but 3995 is kinda pushing it for a 50 trim kit for me. Still trying to decide on What turbo /or turbo kit to get.....

It's easy to get close to or right at 400whp on the stock turbo. I don't know why you're dismissing it so quickly. Cams, alky, exhaust, boost, tune - those are the basics. You can add little things like header, o2, licp, too, to make up the last few ponies between 370 and 400. This gives you an easy 11-sec daily driver with NO LAG. Way better than upgrading your turbo, which requires fuel upgrades and sometimes manifold, downpipe, and LICP upgrades.

K thanks for the advice..... im really considering the stock turbo now but i have an extra 1200 and just thought it would be better to get a bigger/better turbo to really improve my power. What about a 20g9 or the 6.5 rs? isnt the rs turbo suppose to spool only a few 100 rpms over stock?

You unfortunately don't have your profile filled out, so I have no idea what year you have. If you have an 03/04, the TME would be a decent upgrade, since it would give you the larger hotside in addition to quicker spool from the lightened internals. If you have an 05, then it would be a waste of money. If you have an 06, then it would be a downgrade. Sure, the 20g-9 is a good upgrade, but you still need to have all the same supporting mods that get the stock turbo to 400whp already in order to get the max potential out of the 20g-9. Same with any other turbo upgrade.

Btw, $1200 is not much money at all, and it certainly isn't enough for a turbo upgrade. You need to get all the supporting mods first, then decide if you need more power. This includes:

- cams
- alky
- header (stock ported/coated)
- o2 housing (coated SS)
- LICP
- FMIC
- injectors

Add all that to the stock turbo, see where you are, then decide where you want to go. Don't get a turbo upgrade without already having all these mods.

I have an 03 evo with all those mods except an FMIC and INjectors. WHat turbo would give me the best power with the alky at 27psi.. the 20g9, 6.5 TME RS, or stock?

what are some of the secrets to running mid 11's on stock turbo?

I have TBE, HFC, LICP, Xede, Cams(272/264),cam gears. Race Gas map is set at 26 psi. I believe, this would be good for about 12.1 in 1/4 mile. How can I get the power up to go faster?

My vote would be a ballbearing 50 trim..... awesome spool and should still make 400whp.

If 400 Hp is your goal and high 11's stay w/ the stocker w/ 10.5 hotside. Upgrade everything on both sides (intake/exhaust), do meth injestion, and get a custom tune. You will spool faster than any big turbo upgrade and run similar 1/4's. Unless you are looking for big power/times or highway racing you are best served by the stocker or Evo IX turbo.
