The ECU resets it by default. We cannot as of yet have it come on automatically.

This is probably a safety matter to keep "Suzi Soccer Mom" from blowing the intercooler spray pump by running it dry driving it like she stole it.

Just so you'd know.

It's based on the temperature around you. On a hot day, it'll spray.

On auto you need to be at low speeds and high loads. On the freeway it may never trigger. Autox on a hot day will set it off pretty nicely.

I would only imagine that you would run the risk of wearing out the water spray pump sooner and that you may also run the chance of running the pump dry.

The intercooler sprayer is a real nice feature....but on most T/C cars it is non existent, even thought you can by a Co2 sprayer. Not really gonna matter that much, IMO, it's just a nice extra touch that they added to the EVO, On a hot day I would keep it on auto to avoid as much heatsoak as possible... regular cool day I dont think it's really gonna matter much.

Ditto, even though I've never owned a turbo car with an intercooler spray before (who in here has?).

Man, I don't even know why they put that "manual" switch there. I can't see how one can be driving ***** to the wall and have the exact time and ability to spray that thing at just the right time.. Hell, it should stay on automatic for when you are going to run hard and probably stay in the "off" position the rest of the time.... I guess you couldspray your IC while you sit waiting to get to the staging lane at the dragstrip, but you sure don't want to spray it just before you run 'cause they'll just black flag you.... I cannot see how you'd do it manually while trying to shift during a drag race, and even in AutoX, I'd be too busy driving to push that little button....
Does anybody know the best way to use that thing???

when you know you are about to engage in spirited driving, you turn it to automatic and let it stay in automatic till your done driving spiritedly. its not necessary for normal driving. manual mode can be good just to spray whenever u feel necessary, like in a traffic situation, or short off the line burst.

i havent used mine yet......havent used the variable level headlight settings as well....

i personally think the intercooler spray is a joke. maybe my mind will change when i actually remember to use it.

I held the manual IC spray button down whehn the other dude was doing his burnout at the drag strip, all 3 runs. I don't think it sprays enough water for the thing to drip.

I leave it on auto everytime I drive, but I personally haven't heard the thing spray on auto. Besides the bottle is so small. When I spray manually, usually after running hard I'll come to a stop and cool the intercooler, the bottle empties pretty quick.

I heard mixing alcohol with water would work pretty good. Alcohol gets very cold when its on metal with the air hitting the fins. I haven't tried it, I figured it might ignite.......

bad bad....

If you are driving normally, you don;t need to use the sprayers at all. And even if you do use them, you will notice very little, if any difference.

The I/C sprayers are really meant to be used in competition situations, or when you are driving in a VERY spirited situation.

When I was at the track this weekend, I set the sprayers to auto. With the outside air temps being only about 55 degrees, I still only used about half the bottle over the 3 days of track driving.

Instead of putting alcohol into the bottle, why not throw a bunch of ice cubes into the tank? I bet very cold water would work just as well as a water/alcohol mix....and it wouldn't seem nearly as dangerous a proposition.
