exhaust cut outs

Instead of having a Y cut out I was thinking of placing it in the middle of the exhaust. With the thing opened the exhaust would flow normal but with it closed it would block 90% of the exhaust flow so the sound wouldnt be so loud, kind of like a silencer?...of course when closed it would still have a bit of airflow. You think this would work? I can have my exhaust loud most of the time, its when if there is a road block I just need to make sure my exhaust is quiet going thru the check point.

The cutout will not make any real power unless it is as close to the turbo as physically possible.

I think you guys misunderstand him. I think he means having a "cutout" inline with the exhaust as a restrictor. I wouldn't do it as I bet performance would be total crap whenever it was "closed" and would still act as a restriction when "open".

Hey DEREK, I think the question is confusing. you want to put the cutout in the middle of the exhaust. I got that. you want to use it as a "silencer"? closed it would block 90% of the flow out the back? where does the exhaust go then? too much back pressure!! You will get the welds popping, and the fumes going into the cabin, and kill you! You wouldn't want that to happen! I think I misunderstand the question also!

yep exactly I want to put it in the middle of the exhaust. so you think if I block about 70-80% its still too much back pressure? I want it to work like a silencer at a flick of a switch, maybe not block that much but I was hoping if I close it to a certain % it would work

Why don’t you put in the Exhaust silencer when you are not racing and getting on it (that is if your Exhaust came with the silencer).

we go racing only at night... only night times is when they have road blocks so Im not about to stop the car, jump out and slap the silencer on i just need to know if it will work and keep the noise down so cops wont really notice my exhaust cause right now you can hear it a block away

Hehehehe yeah I hate the hassle with the silencer too and without it its just ridiculously loud so that is why I drive daily with the silencer and when I wont to push it a little bit or go race I take it out.
